Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonsa Nemera.
Hi Bonsa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story began with a deep-rooted passion for helping others and an interest in science and healthcare. I was born in Ethiopia, and at the heart of everything I do is the unwavering support of my family, who sacrificed so much to give me the opportunities I have today. Their support is the center of all my endeavors, and I strive to create a lasting legacy for myself and my family.
As I navigated through dental school, I discovered a love for dentistry that extended far beyond the classroom. The intersection of artistry and science in dentistry fascinated me, leading me to co-found a cosmetic dentistry club at my school, where we organized workshops and events to deepen our understanding of the craft. This experience taught me the importance of leadership and collaboration.
Along the way, I started my podcast, Stori Dental Podcast, where I share meaningful conversations with dental professionals and students, discussing everything from challenges in the field to personal growth. Running has also been a significant part of my life, and I’ve found ways to combine it with my love for dentistry. I created a series of short-form TikTok videos like my ’10 miles, 10 dental facts’ series, which allowed me to share educational content while engaging with a broader audience.
Balancing dental school, running, and content creation has shaped my approach to both life and dentistry. I believe in constantly pushing myself to explore new possibilities while staying grounded in my passions, all with the goal of honoring the sacrifices my family made to get me here
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Dental school alone is incredibly demanding, and with my clinic, classes, and studying, it sometimes feels impossible to dedicate the time and energy I want to each of my other passions.
There have been times where I felt spread too thin, trying to maintain the momentum with my podcast, keep up with my fitness goals, and still excel academically. One of the hardest parts has been coming to terms with the fact that I can’t do everything perfectly all at once. Finding a rhythm that allows me to balance all these areas of my life without burning out has been a constant challenge, but it’s something I’ve learned to navigate over time. It’s still a work in progress, but prioritizing and organizing my time has helped me push through those moments of frustration.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Dental student. Most proud of my commitment to education and the utilization of it to treat, educate, and inspire others. My unwavering commitment and obsessive nature sets me apart from others. Passion is the emotion that governs my body + mind, pushing me to excel but sometimes causing me to overextend.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
A little at a time, until less becomes more.
