Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Strohl.
Hi Becky, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
After graduating with a degree in Philosophy, Political Science, and Spanish Literature, I wasn’t sure where my professional career would take me. Over the years, I’ve worked in various roles for nonprofits and big corporations. I’m always driven and have a knack for marketing strategy and captivating copy, so I quickly became the go-to expert on copywriting, marketing, and communications everywhere I went.
In 2018, I decided to expand my horizons by leaving the corporate space and launching my own copywriting business, Alpha Moose. Borrowing from childhood books about Morris the Moose, keeping it quirky with purple tones, and incorporating my passion for pencil antlers, the Alpha Moose was born!
Entrepreneurship is no cakewalk, though. Through many long nights, trial and error, and a strong women-led entrepreneurial network, I was able to gain the insight and support I needed. Over the past year, I’ve brought on three additional freelance writers to assist with the volume of work coming through our doors.
Today, Alpha Moose is a premium copywriting and marketing service offering the very best in brand strategy and messaging.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business on one’s own, from the ground up, requires tight budgets and creative thinking. I had to test out many resources and creative options, balancing high-quality results for my clients and the lowest expenses possible.
I tested social media scheduling platforms Hootsuite, Buffer, Loomly, Agorapulse, and Facebook Creator. I’ve tested Photoshop, Photopea, Canva, and more. From CRM platforms to marketing templates, I tried out everything. This is going to take a lot of time on the frontside (aka, less money-making time), but it’s worth it to have a solid foundation.
Working alone at home also creates a vacuum of isolated thinking. I wasn’t sure what prices to charge or how to sell my services the right way. Imposter syndrome on overdrive! Doing online research, making connections, asking questions, and getting a mentor all helped move my confidence and my business skills forward!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Telling stories is a true joy that I was lucky enough to turn into a career. In my job, I specialize in copywriting for websites, blog posts, social media, and biographies. I especially enjoy turning rough bullet points or vague ideas into a narrative of excellence, whether professional or personal.
I enjoy learning about new industries, developing strategies, and falling in love with the brands I work with. My writing is designed to cast each person and organization in their best light, captivating audiences and carrying them forward on their success journey.
In my personal life, I keep the writing going with poetry, short stories, and a (very rough and terrible) draft of a fantasy fiction novel! Telling stories is the heartbeat of life and I love being a part of it.
What are your plans for the future?
This year, Alpha Moose is revamping its website and aesthetics.
I’ve also started a newsletter for my community and will continue enhancing service quality and delivery so clients can expect more from their premium copywriting service year after year.
