Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Godwin
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From an early age, I found my self interest in art and fashion. Studying cosmetology truly grew into a passion and a lifelong career.
Through out my 19+ years in the industry I have had amazing opportunities, such as styling for New York fashion week and a few local fashion shows. I’ve attended many amazing educational classes with some of the top hair artists in our country (Martin Parsons, John Raymond, Sharon Blain, Jocelyn Emerson, Whitney Ray, just to name a few). All this creativity has led to my passion for formal styling and the start of my very own business. I never take for granted when a client choose me as their new hairstylist, or when I am asked to style their hair for a special moment in their life. These relationships are such an honor and I love getting to know each one of my clients personally.
Moving forward, I would like to continue my focus on styling for bridle and special events. I also am planning on establishing a presence in the local beauty schools. My early education was great, but I would have loved the opportunity to have had more guest artist come and teach specialties and provide guidance on navigating an ever changing industry . I look forward to be able to bring that to our future generation of stylists.
None of this could be possible without the love and support from my family. Whether it’s telling me they love me as I walk out the door, sharing all my post and pictures, or helping me build my business. I always feel how proud they are of me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am thankful I took my time in starting my own business. Being in the industry for years before taking that leap of faith, has given me confidence and knowledge from networking to prepare for my next chapter. I don’t expect things to always come easy, and at times my brain hurts with all the new I’m learning (especially with social media marketing). But I am thankful for how everything has come together so far.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in on-and- offsite bridal hairstyling. I love being apart of someone’s big day and helping complete the vision for their bridal party. Boho bridal looks is where I find my self most creative, but I am always excited by a new style trend. Whether they are getting married on the beach, states away or happy to come into my studio, I am there for them. I have been told that my presents can be quite relaxing. And I think that works to everyone’s benefit the day of an event. My goal for each bride and wedding party is to have a fun relaxing morning together while hair services are happening.
How do you define success?
I feel the rush of success after each completed hairstyle. You can see and feel it when someone feels sexy, confident and heard after their hair is complete. The conversations we have about their desired look, is so important. I like for us both to be confident and comfortable in the look we have dreamed up. This allows me to focus on the art of hair and what I can make it do.
I get an extra dose of that rush when ever someone is happy to refer me as a bridal hairstylist. Truly the highest compliment spreading my name.
