Today we’d like to introduce you to Anitra Green.
Hi Anitra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was a social worker for over 20 years and had thought about being an entrepreneur at some point. I spent most of my career providing counseling to children and supporting families. I decided in Covid to take a leap of faith seeing the need for mental health when the world was collectively mourning and launched Taylormade Behavioral Health Solutions. I wanted to support children and adults . I also knew I was minority in the field and my services were needed.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting the business was smoother than expected because I was in a community of private practice therapist and networking. I gained a lot of answers and this was amazing. The most challenging part was navigating insurance, learning how to be a business woman and discovering all the nuances that arise with being in business. Due to my specialization in grief and loss my timing was good and I was busy from the beginning of opening. It was a good challenge to have!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My therapy practice provides both counseling and training to individuals and organizations. My specialization is in grief and loss. I am known for bringing a creative edge to my work alongside of my passion and knowledge. I host an annual grief conference as a community service in my hometown and this October will be the 9th year. It is a time of learning, sharing , connecting and a unique experience. One of my proudest moments was the day I launched my children’s grief book called The Day Grandpop’s Music Stopped in 2024. It was dream realized and another creative way I have used to reach grieving children and families. What sets me apart from others is the diversity in services that I offer. I also bring a sense of peace and comfort as well as joy to others and it come very natural.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
It may be surprising that at some point I wasn’t going to pursue entrepreneurship because I didn’t have a business degree despite all my skillsets as a therapist. I like to be overknowledgeable in all areas and I am glad several business people told me they didn’t have a business degree and were successful. This encouraged me to move forward .
