Life & Work with Amani Kafeety of The Pink Peony Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amani Kafeety.

Hi Amani, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
If you had told me a year ago that I’d own a small business renting luxury flower wall backdrops and styling unforgettable events, from proposals and weddings to showers and corporate celebrations and more, I probably would’ve laughed. Now, here I am, curating stunning setups and even offering unique handcrafted floral designs for those extra special touches… I probably would’ve laughed. This time last year, I was packing up my life on the West Coast of Canada, saying goodbye to everything familiar, and moving to Pennsylvania to start a new chapter with my husband. It was emotional and scary — filled with uncertainty, change, and a whole lot of tears — but it was also the beginning of something incredibly beautiful.

The spark for The Pink Peony Co. came from a moment I’ll never forget: about a week before my bridal shower, I had a sudden vision of a flower wall behind a dessert table. At the time, this kind of setup wasn’t something you saw often where I lived — but I couldn’t shake the idea. I scoured the local marketplace and eventually found two options. Trusting a stranger to deliver on something so specific felt risky (and probably not the best idea, looking back 😅), but I went for it anyway. And when I walked into that room and saw my vision brought to life, I felt something shift.

That moment stayed with me. Long after the wedding, long after the big move, and long after the dust settled on a whirlwind season of change — I kept returning to that flower wall. The way it made me feel. The way it tied everything together. The joy it brought to my special day.

And eventually, I thought… What if I could do that for other people too?

I didn’t have a business plan. I didn’t know the first thing about rentals or styling. I had spent over a decade in public health — this was way off the path I thought I’d be on. But here I found myself somewhere I’ve never been before – with a clean slate and so much creative energy built up, and the freedom to choose to do *anything* I wanted. Do I go back to my career? I did not feel motivated to return to that path. And, I couldn’t ignore the pull I felt toward creating beauty, celebration, and joy for others. I really felt this strong calling from God to take a different path than what I thought I would be doing, and so with prayer and support from my husband, family and close friends, I took the leap.

And here we are now nearly 10 months later after that little seed was planted.

Today, The Pink Peony Co. offers full-service faux floral rentals for weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, proposals, and so many more kinds of celebrations across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington D.C., and Northern Virginia. We specialize in luxurious flower walls, custom signage, and full display packages that turn everyday moments into unforgettable memories.

Looking back, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude and feel so blessed for how this journey has been for me so far — for the clients who have trusted me with their big days, for the loved ones who’ve cheered me on, and for that one tiny moment that changed the trajectory of everything.

Turns out, all it took was a single vision — and the courage to follow it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has definitely not been a smooth road. As anticipated when trying something brand new (to me), I faced a lot of steep learning curves. While I have never been a business owner before, I had spent years as a project manager, nonprofit conference and event planning, social event planning, marketing, and more, and I unexpectedly found that these transferable skills could be channeled into building my business. This includes tapping into my love for graphic design and used my skills and interests to build out my branding materials, start up my social media pages, and slowly things evolved from there. But there was so much to learn about starting an LLC, learning all the different aspects of taxes, and more. I had no clue how quickly expenses would rack up, so I learned early on to be strategic before adding on all these subscriptions and expanding inventory too quickly. For a business like mine, it is hard to know where your next booking will come from, and so I made sure to focus on my social media marketing but also widening my efforts to go beyond this by getting involved in community events including wedding showcases, networking events, small business events, and more. Despite my past experiences and acquired skills, doing all this by myself for a business was completely different in many ways, and I had a lot to learn and I am still constantly learning and adapting as I go, especially as the different markets I serve require different strategies for gaining trust from my ideal audience/client.

I also was nervous whether people would be willing to even pay my rates for a luxury item like this. I learned through this also that even in a market with others doing similar work that I do, that there is still room for us all to succeed and I love collaborating with other businesses in the industry to create beautiful event displays that have an impact. I think that because this is a new concept for many areas that I serve, that this also means there’s a lot more creative marketing work to do on my end to get more eyes on my business, what I offer, and the value that it can provide to others who are hosting any kinds of celebrations. I continue to refine my marketing to attract my ideal client.

This is all a learning journey that is far from linear, but I am here for it! So far, I have been really happy with my results so far, and as I continue to improve my strategies, I pray that God continues to bless this path for me wherever He leads me and this business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in offering faux floral backdrops which include flower walls and flower arches. I take my time to vet different suppliers and sources to find high quality materials and products to be able to offer beautiful premium quality lifelike pieces as an an affordable decor alternative to real flowers (and my offerings still do pair perfectly with real florals for a full event design!). I learned quickly that for Pennsylvania and many other areas I serve, that flower wall backdrops like what I offer are unique and relatively uncommon. So, seeing people’s surprise, awe, and excitement over my displays has made every interaction I have with people I meet so rewarding. I am proud of being able to offer these beautiful pieces of art and bring joy to people’s special occasions, and I am constantly keeping up with trends and what people are loving to determine what else to add to my inventory and services.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck, I believe in God’s grace and blessings. My faith as a Christian is rooted in my life and everything I do, and running my business has been no different. I truly believe everything happens for a reason, and that God places us in situations that may not be what we thought we’d be in. Before getting married and moving to PA, I was praying that God would bless us in this new chapter of marriage of course, but also that I would be blessed with good people that I could build friendships with, that I could find joy in my career and land my dream job, and that I would be able to settle in and be happy with where we chose to settle. With SO MANY new things I was dealing with at once, I thought this was all important for me to have. But of course, what we think is best for us isn’t necessarily what God believes is best for us…it is something even better!

And so, I believe that God gave me the wild idea for starting this business, allowed me to have the strength and courage to endure all the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, gave me peace and an open mind to allow me to explore new unknown territories that was sooo far from what my career was before. Through opening this new door of entrepreneurship, God has blessed me with far more than I imagined. I now have so many connections with new people I never would’ve crossed paths with otherwise – new friends, new business partnerships, new clients…and it’s been amazing! I keep this in the front of mind always – that without God, I don’t believe any of this could have been possible for me.
