Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Sincevich.
Hi Alex, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love for music really goes way back to my early childhood. My mother would take me to Jazz concerts in the park, and play old records on the family victrola for my siblings and I. In school I picked up the trumpet and played in the jazz band. In highschool my friend and I pieced together old stereo components and started DJing parties for our friends in basements and treehouses. I DJed in a company that my friend and I formed for a little while and then started DJing for a couple other outfits. Always a tinker-er, one holiday season in 2011 I noticed the family victrola wasn’t working. I offered to fix it and get it running again as a present to my mom. I found the spring had snapped in the motor. With a blow torch, hammer, a pair of pliers, and a few choice curse words I got the motor repaired. That holiday season I rediscovered my love for Jazz and old records. Shortly after that my mom helped me pick up two wind up picnic turntables and a few records. I got a few gigs around town playing at vintage clothing shops and antique stores. Folks really enjoyed the old records and record players. I added it to the wedding side of my DJ work, started dressing snazzy, got a brand going, and I was off to the races. Now we employ 9 DJs, are constantly growing, and we host somewhere around 400 weddings per year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a road with many challenges including balancing life and a full time job at first, growing and raising a family, figuring out taxes, and navigating a pandemic too.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Disc jockey who specializes in weddings, specifically retro themed wedding experiences. I’m known for my dapper vintage inspired presence. I use antique record players and modern equipment to bring a really unique and authentic experience to any event. I’m most proud of folks trusting me to represent them musicly on their first act of hospitality as a married couple. What sets me apart aside from my vintage inspired aesthetics is the priority I place on the act of hospitality and the experience I curate for couples.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I credit my mother, for my love of music, and my entrepreneurial sprit. My children’s mother helped me get started with the name, facebook page, website, and countless hours holding the fort down while I was building the business. Laura Aura and the graphic design Team at Worx were great cheerleaders and really nailed the branding. My accountant Kendra keeps everything on the biz side running.
