Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Shaka Watson of Baltimore

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shaka Watson. Check out our conversation below.

Shaka , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My sons recently have been really doing well in school. My 6-year-old have been showing a huge interest in math! and My 11-year-old has been taking his drawings and art very serious. I see that determination and drive and them and it’s inspiring actually.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shaka Nesta Watson, and I’m the creative mind behind 3lindVision, a photography brand that captures love, art, and authenticity through timeless imagery. I specialize in wedding and portrait photography, with a focus on creating bold, emotional, and visually striking work that tells real stories.

What makes 3lindVision unique is the blend of editorial style and raw emotion—I aim to make every image feel cinematic, yet deeply personal. I’m inspired by music, culture, and the simple beauty of real human connection, and I bring that energy into every shoot.

At the heart of my brand is storytelling—turning moments into memories that last a lifetime. Right now, I’m working on expanding 3lindVision into new creative spaces, collaborating with other artists, and pushing the boundaries of what wedding and lifestyle photography can look like.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I once gave too much power to other people’s opinions. I used to be easily discouraged, and at one point, another photographer even told me I should give up on the idea of photography. But that moment changed everything.

Over time, I developed a level of confidence that no longer allows me to doubt myself. I’ve faced too many trials and obstacles to be shaken by anything I might encounter now. Mentally, I’m unstoppable. Photography became more than just an art form—it became my purpose and my proof that perseverance always pays off.

Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
Every day, at least once, I think about my dad. I wish he was here to see my growth, to witness my success, and to meet his grandsons—to pass down the same morals and strength he instilled in me. There hasn’t been a single day I haven’t shed a tear thinking about him.

The thought of my father motivates me. His memory reminds me why I push so hard, why I stay grounded, and why I never give up. I miss my dad deeply, but his influence continues to live through everything I do.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is definitely a reflection of the real me — just more focused and intentional. What people see through 3lindVision is my passion, my creativity, and my purpose. But behind that lens, I’m still the same person who started with nothing but a dream and a camera. The energy, the emotion, and the storytelling you see in my work all come from real experiences. So yes, what you see is real — it’s just presented through my art.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
That’s an amazing question! My mind is usually chaotic — always busy. You ever seen The Matrix and watched all those codes and numbers zooming across the screen? That’s my mind most days. There’s always something running — ideas, edits, shoots, deadlines.

But I feel the most peace when I’m with my family. They’re my grounding force. I get so caught up in the creative hustle and business side of things that I have to remind myself to slow down and be present — to be a father and a husband first. Those moments make me feel human, make me feel normal.
