Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Patricia Sterling of DMV

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Patricia Sterling. Check out our conversation below.

Patricia, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Some people think what I do is effortless. But floral and event design is so much more than making things look beautiful—it’s about creating an experience that tells a story and leaves a lasting impression. Behind the beauty are hours of planning, sourcing, logistics, and problem-solving to ensure every detail is flawless, not to mention the processing and designing of flowers and installations that bring the vision to life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Patricia Sterling, Executive Design Strategist and CEO of Sincerely PS Events & Design, a floral and event design firm in the Washington, DC metro area. We create modern, elegant, and story-driven experiences for weddings, social celebrations, and corporate events, blending lush floral artistry with intentional design details. Rooted in my Southern heritage, our signature style pairs sophistication with warmth.

After six years in business, we’ve expanded into luxury event rentals, giving clients access to curated high-end pieces that elevate every celebration. I’m now stepping into full-time entrepreneurship, taking on larger-scale projects and continuing to push creative boundaries to design events that feel as unforgettable as the moments they celebrate.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that played small to keep others comfortable has served its purpose and is ready to be released. I no longer need to dim my vision or question my worth. I’m stepping unapologetically into my power as a creative entrepreneur—trusting my talent, embracing my value, and fully owning the dreams I once thought were too bold to pursue.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are more capable than you realize, and you don’t have to shrink yourself to fit someone else’s idea of who you should be. Trust your instincts, embrace your creativity, and know that every challenge is shaping you into the woman you’re meant to become,

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes—the public version of me is real, what you see is what you get. The heart, the passion, and the values are 100% authentic—there’s just more hustle, humanity, and behind-the-scenes chaos than you might see, lol.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I lived with integrity, led with love, and poured beauty into the world, both through my work and in the way I treated others. That I made people feel seen, celebrated, and valued, that I loved making people happy, and that my creativity turned ordinary moments into unforgettable experiences. That I always stood on the side of right, even when it wasn’t the easy choice. I want my story to be one of courage, resilience, and generosity—a reminder that you can dream boldly, work passionately, and still leave room for grace.
