Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Nyoka Adams

We recently had the chance to connect with Nyoka Adams and have shared our conversation below.

Nyoka, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What battle are you avoiding?
I think I’ve been avoiding fully delegating parts of my business because I’m used to wearing all the hats. I know scaling means trusting others with my vision, but letting go is tough.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Nyoka, the founder and creative visionary behind NA3 Luxury Treats, a luxury dessert brand based in Bowie, Maryland. What began as a personal passion for designing beautiful, edible elements for my daughter’s celebrations has evolved into a thriving business that serves the DMV area and beyond. I specialize in handcrafted, high-end desserts that make a statement, whether it’s cake pops, cupcakes, or custom confections for elegant events.

NA3 Luxury Treats is all about transforming sweets into art and creating unforgettable moments through design, detail, and flavor. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my brand through digital products like eBooks and decorating classes that empower others to create with confidence. My mission is to continue elevating everyday celebrations while building a brand that blends creativity, community, and luxury.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world added its expectations, I was a naturally creative, curious, and expressive little girl who saw beauty in everything and believed she could design her own reality. I was always organizing, styling, and bringing ideas to life, whether it was for a school project, a birthday, or just playtime. Somewhere along the way, the world tried to box that creativity in, urging me toward practicality over passion. But even then, the spark never fully dimmed. Building NA3 Luxury Treats has been my way of reclaiming that part of myself, the visionary who creates joy, magic, and beauty on her own terms.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most is the fear of being “too much.” Too bold, too creative, too ambitious, too outside the box. For a long time, I tried to shrink myself to fit into what felt safe or acceptable especially as a Black woman navigating both corporate and creative spaces. I questioned whether my ideas were too big, whether I could really build a brand rooted in luxury and creativity without traditional backing or approval. But eventually, I realized that the very things I feared were my greatest strengths. Owning my “too much” became the key to building NA3 Luxury Treats. Now, I let that energy fuel me. I still get scared, but I no longer let fear run the show.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that intention is at the core of everything I do. Whether it’s in my personal life or through my brand, NA3 Luxury Treats, I move with purpose. I don’t just create desserts, I design experiences meant to leave a lasting impression. They know I value freedom, the ability to build a life and a business on my own terms, where creativity isn’t just allowed, it’s necessary. I care deeply about impact. I want every interaction, every detail, every bite to feel thoughtful and meaningful. For me, it’s never just about doing something beautiful, it’s about making people feel seen, celebrated, and inspired.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say I made life more beautiful, not just through what I created, but through how I showed up. That I turned my creativity into a calling, and my calling into something that served others. That I didn’t just build a brand, I built joy, community, and possibility. I hope they remember me as someone who led with vision, heart, and integrity… someone who made people feel seen, celebrated, and inspired to dream bigger. If the story they tell is that I lived fully, gave generously, and turned everyday moments into something magical then I’ll know I did it right.
