We’re looking forward to introducing you to Moon. Check out our conversation below.
Moon, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
There are a few things that brings me joy outside of work and that is my family, especially my boyfriend, the podcast I share with a true friend, and a returning love of playing WWE videos games.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I go by the name of Moon (formerly Naturaldollbaby). I have a podcast with my sister from another mister, Ms. Lexiaa, called Vibes & Slow Jams that’s exclusively on Stationhead because it’s the only platform that allows real music to be played. Vibes & Slow Jams is a passion project that was birthed during a time of self-discovery and before everyone knew Amazon sold microphones and started podcasting frenzy. Lol, but seriously we wanted to create a podcast that gave that quiet storm vibe, that 90s sitcom hangout spot vibe, like how Sister, Sister had The Cellar, Moesha had The Den, or A Different World had The Pit.
We wanted to create a spot for the old souls that like their vibes and jams slow. We wanted to create a place where we retire Netflix & Chill and bring back the real deal Holyfield of long conversations and slow jams. Basically where you just want to relax, relate, and release.
After life definitely started life-ing, we had to take a break, but we feel like Mase when he did the song “Welcome Back.” We are back and now we want to grow the brand further and possibly become the podcast that generates a buzz on Stationhead.
We plan on doing a giveaway soon and no it won’t be those type of giveaways where people give used products; it will be a gift you would appreciate.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Something I believed as a child that I no longer believe is that it is bad to say no.
This was actually a podcast episode, or “vibe” as we call them.
I think if not all of us, most of us were told to just do what someone told us as children — no questions asked, especially when it came to adults. While we should respect our elders, since when did the definition of respect mean to blindly follow everything? This type of action can lead to people-pleasing, conflict avoidance, and a lack of boundaries, which is why some adults, including myself, have a hard time speaking up for ourselves.
I am learning the power in the word “no.” And if you need a song reference, listen to “Yes” by Beyoncé!
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Whew, this question really is the theme of my life. These battle scars tell many stories.
I am a survivor in many aspects of my life.
In the 8th grade, my female reproductive system started to fail me. It began when my ovary turned completely black and twisted. This was the start of many issues. As of today, I only have a uterus and am going through menopause as a 31-year-old woman (if my nieces read this, just pretend I said 21, they can’t believe I’m 31).**
I donated a kidney to my father in 2018 (the only surgery I’ve ever opted into), lol.**
I know when I leave this Earth and have my body donated to science, they’re gonna be mad, lol.
You’ll learn on the podcast that I can be unserious yet serious at times. My humor is very unique.
How I heal from them? these physical battle scars heal on their own, but the mental ones still require work (you can learn more about those on the podcast), but they don’t stop me.
I made myself a mantra, and it’s called Caim Human. Caim means you are safe and loved even in your darkest times, and Human is an acronym that stands for Healing Unconditionally Mainly Against Negativity. It’s actually a clothing brand I wanted to start. So, just remember you read it here first.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
Ideas that I rely on the most that aren’t my own is definitely God and my man (thank you to my man — in my Latto voice) for sure! I also have a great support system including family, especially my trio effect cousins, my bestie and my cohost. They help me in ways they wouldn’t even know.
They keep me on my toes and grounded, especially my man!
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
The story I hope people tell about me when I’m gone is that I am the rarest gem that you will ever find. I am a person that can make your day better because I showed up. I changed for the better and I never let my circumstances break me. I want them to scream the name Vibes & Slow Jams and understand that this was created out of love and means to bring something unique.
I hope that people share that my good outweighs my bad. I hope the community just keeps the brand alive!
