Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Maeion Bryant of Catonsville

We recently had the chance to connect with Maeion Bryant and have shared our conversation below.

Maeion, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I usually like to Meditate and exercise first thing in the morning. Then read my scripture and have a cup of coffee.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Maeion Bryant—a name that means beauty and peace—and I’ve spent over three decades immersed in the world of beauty. From fashion to media, it’s been my passion and profession to help people look and feel their best.

Recently, I rebranded my business from Maeion Beauty & Company to Maeion Beauty Collective. This new name reflects a deeper mission: to foster collaboration and community among like-minded, purpose-driven women in the beauty industry.

My career has taken me from studio sets to special events, with projects ranging from PBS and Toyota commercials to photography sessions, weddings, and more. I’ve also made it a priority to uplift the next generation of artists through mentorship and hands-on training—what I call “Boss in Training”—designed to help emerging talent step into their purpose with confidence.

I consider myself a beautypreneur—a blend of glam and grit. I show up every day with intention: to empower clients through the transformative power of beauty, confidence, and self-perception.

While makeup is my medium, professionalism, business, and service excellence are at the heart of everything I do. And behind the scenes, I’m working on a bold new venture that’s innovative, inspiring, and not quite ready to be revealed—but stay tuned.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
A friend of mine who I met as a young adult—her name is Teresa Williams (aka Frankie). She was my agent when I was modeling on the West Coast in Seattle. Frankie taught me the value of hard work, listening, and speaking up for yourself—especially in the business world. I noticed how well respected she was by her clients. I learned how to guard my name and brand early on—not letting someone steal what you work for and call it their own. I was taught that if you do an exceptional job, they will remember you. Show up on time, have an understanding of what is expected of you, do your homework for each project, and leave a lasting impression. Most importantly, enjoy what you do—it will reflect in your work and attitude if you don’t.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
” If I could say one kind word to my younger self, it would be this: You are beautiful, strong, and wise beyond your years.”

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The beauty industry often tells us we can be fixed—that we’ll feel better if we change our faces, our skin, our bodies. But the truth is, no cream, surgery, or tool can heal what we don’t already love within ourselves. If we’re struggling to accept who we are inside, no outer transformation will ever be enough. Real beauty, real peace, starts when we choose to see our worth beyond the mirror.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I have always given my best—it’s my nature to make sure what I set out to do is done well. Whether it’s my family, work, keeping my home in order, or keeping in touch with friends, my colleagues know they can count on me when I’m called on. My family feels the same. I don’t look for praise, because why should you look for praise if you do it from the heart? People know when you’re sincere or you’re just looking for a pat on the back.
