Luz Marrero shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Luz, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes I would hire me! I am passionate, I have a decent turn around time and I do the research behind whatever project I’ve been hired to do!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Luz Marrero the face behind “Artistry de Luz LLC — an artist who loves bringing color and creativity into people’s lives. I do a mix of face painting, makeup looks, murals, and paint & sip events. Honestly, I just love seeing people light up through art — whether it’s a kid smiling at their painted face, a group laughing at one of my classes, or someone seeing a mural come to life in their space.
What makes my work special is the heart behind it. I’m a single mom of three amazing boys — 22, 17, and 12 — and everything I do is for them. My art is my way of showing them that with passion and persistence, you can create the life you dream of.
Right now, I’m focused on growing my events and mural projects while sharing more of my journey online. My goal is to inspire others to find joy in creativity and to keep pushing forward, no matter where they’re starting from.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me everything I know about hard work. They came all the way from Puerto Rico to Pennsylvania, chasing a better life for our family. Growing up, I watched them work multiple jobs and never complain — just doing whatever it took to provide for us. Their dedication, strength, and sacrifice are the foundation of my own work ethic. They showed me that no dream is too far if you’re willing to work for it.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain when I realized it could be fuel instead of a weight. Instead of letting it break me, I started pouring it into my art — every brushstroke, every design, every creative moment became a release. My work became my healing. It’s how I turned what hurt me into something beautiful that could touch others, too.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. What you see is what you get — I don’t use filters. The public version of me is me. I share my real life, my art, my struggles, and my wins because that’s what connects people. I believe in being genuine, and I think that honesty shows through everything I create.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m near water — a beach, a lake, anywhere I can just listen to nature and breathe. There’s something about grounding my feet, touching the water, and reflecting that brings me back to myself. I also love swinging in a hammock, feeling the breeze, and just being still for a moment. That’s when my mind feels clear and my heart feels calm.
