Lisa Summers shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I am being called to step fully into the spotlight by sharing my personality, thoughts, and opinions with the world. For years, I was comfortable behind the camera, curating moments and showing just quick glimpses of myself. But now, I feel a deeper pull to reveal more of me, to let people connect with the person behind the brand. It’s uncomfortable, because blending in has always felt safe, but I know that growth lives outside of my comfort zone. This season is about shining, even when it feels scary, and trusting that my voice and presence are exactly what’s needed.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Lisa Summers, and I turned fun into a full-time business. Through my digital platform, It’s Summers Somewhere, I help over 250,000 people find unforgettable things to do—so they can save them time & hassle just by sharing my easy guided experiences. From date nights to family adventures, I’m the insider people trust to turn “what should we do?” into “why didn’t we do this sooner?” This is done by social media content and sharing my things to do newsletter called “It’s Somewhere Local,” which gives full lists of events weekly.
By day, I’m a corporate sales trainer, but my true passion is helping busy people stop living on autopilot and start making room for fun again, especially moms. Having two young kids, I know how hard it can be to feel like you have to do everything for everyone else and have no time for you. I want to empower women to make sure they plan a fun day so they can take care of themselves first.
In addition to content creation, I also consult with businesses through my company “Summers Social” to help them understand the power of influencer marketing—how to find the right creators, what to offer, and how to build partnerships that actually convert while speaking on these topics in a public forum.
I’ve built a trusted community, a thriving newsletter, and a brand that partners with tourism boards, events, and brands to help people thrive.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My late mother, Mary Brown, taught me everything I know about hard work and breaking barriers. She never let challenges define her, she showed me how to rise above them.
Back in the 70s, she completed a year at Harvard Business School while raising a toddler, and later returned to Baltimore to finish her MBA at Loyola. She balanced ambition with motherhood effortlessly—leading in high-powered roles while still showing up to every practice, every event, and every passion.
One of my earliest memories is traveling with her to Chicago. While she worked during the day, I’d stay in the hotel watching TV, and at night she took me out to explore the city. Even at the top of her career, she never stopped being present.
From her, I learned that you can work a 9–5 and still build your true dreams from 5–9. She taught me that success isn’t just about achievement, it’s about balance, resilience, and leaving room for joy.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Fear of the unknown has held me back because I am a big planner and not knowing is hard. I have been scared to start something on my own and continue with a guaranteed pay check but eventually I know I will have to leave my full time job to move forward. Yet, by doing this I would have more time to build up my own business to a level unknown.
The hardest thing in life for me is not knowing but 5 years ago I had no idea I would be where I am today so I am embracing the unknown as it can take you some amazing places.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
No! I am an introvert so to strangers I come across quiet, reserved and a bit awkward, yet around my friends I am an excited goof ball who loves geeky things like Harry Potter. I find it hard to share a balance with my audience because I am not one to say or do things I don’t really mean yet I am a nice person and want everyone to win.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I regret not exercising for my health every day. I think about it but I haven’t put in action daily and need to change this if I want to live a long life. So expect some content about taking care of your body as a part of self care soon.
