Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Lauryn Scriber of DMV

Lauryn Scriber shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Lauryn , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I have been put on the path of esthetics, as skin has become a big interest for me in the recent months. I have wanted to further my knowledge in skin to first help others on their skin journey and to follow up with personalized makeup recommendations/routines for clients to feel comfortable and confident in their skin.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a professional makeup artist servicing the DMV areas. With a refined eye for detail and a passion for enhancing natural beauty, I specialize in glamorous looks, bridal artistry, and editorial work. I bring a blend of precision, creativity, and industry expertise to every client. With a developing understanding of skin tones, trends, and camera-ready techniques, I strive to create flawless, customized looks that leave lasting impressions both in person and on film.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
As I first started makeup, I felt that I had to take every and all clients that came my way – no matter the style or esthetic or price. I’m at the point now that I have figured out my niche, and with that it has allowed me to say “no” or “not now” in terms of protecting my time and peace.
I still hustle, but I am putting more emphasis on projects that align with my goals rather than be so well versed. With this mindset change, my goal is to become a master within my niche verses spreading myself too thin.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, I still sometimes get in my head but I know it’s just me getting in my own way pushing for perfection rather than consistency. This is something I still am currently working through daily.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would definitely say makeup artistry would be most important to me, but mainly the educational aspect. I truly enjoy learning new techniques and teaching to others as well. Makeup can be very overwhelming, as anything new to a beginner – however I have always leaned in to makeup with full attention and curiosity.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I regret not leaning into my passions earlier on – but again all is in God’s timing so I feel like I’m where I am supposed to be at the moment.
