JoAnn Hodges shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi JoAnn, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consist of having “Morning Devotion”. I pray, read scriptures from the Bible, and listen to/sing Gospel music. I feel that spending time with God is essential to the start of a great day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello readers, my name is JoAnn Hodges. I am a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the owner/head designer of Favors4Life.
Favors4Life has taken artistry to the confectionery marketplace, consistently creating unique seasonal and themed arrangements.
In addition to specializing in chocolate delicacies, we also offer DIY, “Fun with Chocolate” workshops for all ages.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me the most about work. As a child, I remember both parents working at least 40 hours a week and sometimes more. They instilled the importance of having good work ethics in order to sustain financial independence.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say to my younger self to strive to make a difference in the world. There is nothing that you can’t do if you put your mind to it. Many times, we have dreams and visions but think that they are unreachable. I have learned over the years that if you pray, do research and educate yourself, there’s not much that one cannot learn to do.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real me. I try to be consistent in how I show up, whether I’m with family, friends or in the community. I don’t like pretending to be someone I’m not, so what you see is genuinely who I am.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow my customers would miss the way I made their ideas come to life. I always go above and beyond to ensure every arrangement is a one-of-a- kind design. I believe they would remember that my business is an extension of my heart, built on spreading joy and celebrating life’s meaningful moments.
