CRYST shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi CRYST , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
This year has truly been a testament to about how good God is. I have had multiple amazing moments this year. From selling out my first headlining show, to performing on the main stage at in Baltimore Pride. To graduating from Morgan State University it’s been a very proud year for me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is CRYST Thee girl who be sangin !
I’m a music artist a producer a songwriter a creative director and all around just a girl! LOL
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Multiple people have saw me and loved me before I could even think about doing for myself. Even my freinds who I love they be like girl you famous, and I be like I’m glad you believe that lmao. However my parents and grandmother who passed. Are truly who keeps me going.
My Mom Luvenia Coleman who passed in 2016. My dad Odell who passed in 2018. My grandmother who passed in 2020 and my Aunt Tonia. my bonus mom,my soulmate, & of my best friends and always has my back. I wouldn’t be alive today without any of them honestly
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly I feel like giving up sometimes everyday sometimes! Everyweek it depends on the day!
I go through periods of my life now where I’m like what am I doing? Fighting self doubt is a daily struggle for me. That’s why I’m always preaching about purpose without we have nothing.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I feel like not everyone but there are definitely people that would agree with me on this. That is if we want to have a world we truly want for ourselves. We all have to be willing to sacrifice and put our lives on the line. If we want a future for our children, have courage and be willing to lose some things, and I think most people are not willing to inconvenience themselves for what’s right.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I think that patience has never been a virtue of mine. I’m very much so a I want it now typa girl ! I think life is teaching me patience, but in 7-10 yrs I’m praying everything I’m working towards now has payed off. I see my hard work paying off now but I hope to truly see all the fruits of my labor by then.
