Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Ciarrah Fittro of Columbia, MD

Ciarrah Fittro shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Ciarrah, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I start my mornings with my kids, making breakfast and enjoying a coffee before diving into emails. I love beginning each day with intention—showing up fully for both my family and my business. Being present, available, and reachable is something I value deeply as a business owner.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Ciarrah, and I’m the owner of BeyondTheUpdo Bridal Hair and Makeup. Not only do I run the company, but I’m also the lead hairstylist—and it’s truly my passion. BeyondTheUpdo shines because of more than just me; it’s built on the incredible talent of our 16 amazing artists. These women bring unmatched skill, creativity, and energy to the bridal industry every single day.

Our team is grounded in constant education, open communication, honesty, and loyalty to every client who trusts us. Our brand reflects a light, airy, and modern-classic aesthetic, and we strive to embody that through both our artistry and professionalism.

When I first started BTU three years ago, we were a team of five. Watching it grow to what it is today has been nothing short of amazing. Sometimes I have to pause and remind myself to take it all in. I feel so blessed to have the support of my family, my team, and my friends—because I couldn’t do any of this without them.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My fiancé and my team have truly shaped me into the business owner I am today. From the very beginning, they believed in me, pushed me, and supported me through both the highs and the lows of starting a business. I’ll admit—I didn’t believe in myself at first, and I never imagined I could actually do it.

Starting a business is not easy. It’s scary, stressful, and at times, completely draining. But one phrase has carried me through the hardest days: “If it were easy, everyone would do it.” I repeat that to myself often, and it keeps me moving forward.

No, this journey hasn’t been easy—but I wouldn’t change a single thing about it. I truly love the drive, the growth, and the fun that comes with being a business owner. Every year, our team comes together for at least one or two training classes, a styled photoshoot, and our Christmas party—a way to celebrate our growth, sharpen our skills, and show appreciation for the incredible women who make BeyondTheUpdo what it is.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Some of the hardest times in my life have taught me to take things one day at a time and to be grateful for both the good and the bad. I truly believe everything happens for a reason—even when we don’t understand it in the moment. With time, it all comes together and makes sense in ways we never expected.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
When you work with me, you get both the artist and the owner. I take professionalism and respect seriously—but I’ll always show up as my true self. That means you’ll probably catch me laughing, dancing, or singing while I work. I’m known for saying “hey girrlll,” “I know that’s right,” and “stunning” at least a hundred times a day.

If you’ve worked with me, you know it feels like we’ve been friends for years. My personality blends professionalism and maturity with a pure, fun, and loving energy. More than anything, I love building genuine relationships with every client. And even if you’re working with one of my amazing team members instead of me directly, you’ll still receive the same warm, personalized, and loving experience.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I deeply understand the hard work, ambition, and time my team puts into what they do. Before starting my own company, I worked with many others, and I noticed that one of the things often missing was genuine appreciation. That’s something I promised myself I’d always prioritize.

These women are not just contractors—they’re family. I strive to make sure they always feel valued, heard, and supported. I’m only ever a call or text away if they have questions or concerns, whether it’s leading up to an event or on the big day itself. I make sure they’re paid on time, cared for, and given the attention they deserve, because their dedication is the reason BeyondTheUpdo shines.
