Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Asia MONK of West Baltimore

Asia MONK shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Asia, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Who are you learning from right now?
Right now, I feel like I’m learning from everyone. I’m taking in all the information that’s around me and filtering out what I need and what I don’t. As humans we’re always learning from one another whether it’s big or small we never stop learning. I’m taking in all I can to elevate myself to get to the next level.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Asia Monk, and I’m the visionary behind The Monk Collection — a fashion brand turned movement that’s all about spiritual freedom, soul expression, and unapologetic edge. I created MONK not just to make clothes, but to build a world — a cult-like community of people who want to feel powerful, playful, and spiritually lit… all at the same time.

The Monk Collection is where chaos meets calm, where sweet meets savage. It’s about dressing the soul, not just the body. Each piece is designed to evoke a feeling — whether it’s softness, rebellion, mystery, or pure fire. My supporters aren’t just customers… they’re The Monks, part of a larger Monk Fam, united by bold self-expression and inner elevation.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding the brand with music, immersive visuals, and our newest campaign, Got MONK? — an energetic drop inspired by ‘Got Milk?’, Godzilla, and early 2000s chaos-core. And trust, it’s only the beginning.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe I wasn’t special — that I was just a regular girl with nothing that really set me apart. For a long time, I was so focused on being perfect and playing the role of the golden child that I lost sight of my own worth. I started measuring myself based on how others saw or treated me.

But the older I get, the more I realize how wrong I was. I’m so much more than I ever gave myself credit for. At 25, almost 26, and being a mother, I’m finally stepping into who I really am — learning to build real self-confidence, to see my own light, and to honor the person I’ve always been beneath the pressure to be perfect. I’m happy to just be me!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of rejection has been my biggest hater for as long as I can remember. I’ve always been scared of being told no — that my work isn’t good enough, or that someone doesn’t connect with what I create. And even though I think about quitting more often than people would guess, I’ve never actually given up.

Being in the public eye isn’t easy — it forces you to grow a thicker skin and learn how to stand tall in the spotlight. My fear of rejection used to hold me back from fully living, from putting myself out there. And while I’ve come a long way in overcoming it, it still sneaks up on me sometimes.

It’s all trial and error. Some days are heavier than others. But one thing about me — I’ll never stop fighting for the life I know I’m meant to live.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is 100% real. Everything I do, say, and wear is a direct reflection of who I am. The way I express myself — especially through fashion — is just me being me.

Sure, there are parts of my soul the world may never see, but that’s the beauty of it. I wear my soul as my clothes — and that’s exactly what my brand stands for. I couldn’t be Monk if I was any other way. Whether I’m in the spotlight or behind the scenes, I’m always showing up as my most authentic self.

I’m Asia The Monk.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I’ve come to truly understand that everything in life has its own timing. Just because someone else’s moment came before yours doesn’t mean yours isn’t on the way. And just because someone’s time came and went doesn’t mean yours will fade the same way.

We’re all on our own unique paths, trying to figure life out in the best way we can. But constantly comparing ourselves to others — wishing we had what they have or wondering why it’s not happening for us — only pulls us away from our own journey.

When it’s your time, you’ll feel it without a shadow of a doubt. But right now? Take it all in. Learn. Grow. Enjoy where you are. Because the journey — the process — is just as important, if not more, than the destination. Of course we want to “make it,” but how we get there, and who we are along the way, is what truly shapes us.
