We recently had the chance to connect with Alaura Battle and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Alaura, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
As a recent college graduate, I often find myself feeling a bit complacent. With all the anxiety and uncertainty surrounding the world right now, I’ve been trying to reconnect with the things that brought me joy as a child. Painting, drawing, and self-expression help me feel like myself again.
Just last week, I painted from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. It started out bright and sunny outside, and before I knew it, the night had completely settled in. Painting lets me escape my surroundings and focus solely on creating—art that moves me and makes me feel alive.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Alaura a 22-year-old entrepreneur and the creator of VNUS.studios. I started my brand out of a love for helping people feel beautiful, confident, and taken care of. As someone balancing college, entrepreneurship, and growth, my story is really about resilience and purpose. VNUS.studios isn’t just a hair business it’s an experience rooted in trust, artistry, and connection. I’m currently working on elevating my brand, refining my techniques, and expanding into new services that allow my clients to express themselves fully.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
my dad taught me the most about work . i got my first job at 14 and at the age of 14 my first check was $1600 and i didn’t know money like that existed. it opened my eyes to possibilities and im forever grateful for that.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. This past year was one of the hardest chapters of my life, and there were moments where I genuinely felt like giving up. Between going through an getting sick, dealing with really bad anxiety , moving back home, and juggling summer classes while trying to run my business .it felt like everything was happening at once. My stress was at an all-time high, and I didn’t feel like myself.
There were days where I felt overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and disconnected from the version of me I recognized. It wasn’t just one moment . it was a season where everything felt heavy. But even in that messy space, something in me kept pushing forward.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
making people feel good. with social media . the individualism in our country is detrimental to community. as humans community is in our basic nature. everyone wants to be the next big thing. and with that they often forget where they come from and who they are. and im committed to bringing community back. giving back and opening the hearts of those i interact with. kindness is free and there is not enough in the world right now.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
following my dreams i have this unwavering faith that everything will workout in my favor. but apart of me is in a rush to get all of it done in one go. i try to tell me self some of the greatest victories are from when you keep trying untill you get it right.
as a gen’z im influenced my by social media that im “running out of time ” even at the ripe age of 22 i feel like i can be doing more. but its also important to go touch some grass and meditate lol. with all that being said ill regret not trying again even if before, i failed a thousand times , i must get back up and try again – if i dont thats when i know ive failed.
