Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Abaynesh Girma of DMV

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Abaynesh Girma. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Abaynesh, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Many people think Loud Vybz events are just for cannabis enthusiasts, but that’s far from the truth. Our events are for all adults who want to unlock their creative side, explore music, art, and interactive experiences, or simply connect with like-minded people. At Loud Vybz, it’s all about trying something new, expressing yourself, and celebrating creativity within the community.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Abaynesh (Abby), a full-time creative working in graphics, murals, painting, and all things creative. I started Loud Vybz to create a new network where adults ,including those who enjoy cannabis, could tap into their creativity and connect with others in a fun/inspiring environment. I host monthly 420 friendly events such as Puff & Paint and Elevated Yoga that encourage people to try something new, express themselves, and celebrate community. Our events are not about any single lifestyle. They are about creativity, self-expression, and bringing people together.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up in an Ethiopian household, I believed that you couldn’t make money as an artist. Creativity was seen as a hobby, not a viable career. But just like any industry, when you are committed and open to growing your skills, you can create new avenues of income within your world. For me, that has been through Loud Vybz events and my art, showing that creativity can be both fulfilling and sustainable.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been times I almost gave up. Cannabis-inspired art and events come with roadblocks, from denied exhibitions to social media removals. Sometimes I wonder if I should make more “acceptable” art and events by leaving cannabis out of it. But I’ve built a community of like-minded people who appreciate this unique experience and remind me that my art will help end the stigma.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
We can all agree that consistency is key. This applies to all aspects of life. If you don’t continually work to improve your skills, you won’t see change. It doesn’t happen overnight, but the small steps you take today shape tomorrow. I’ve seen the difference in my art and business.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I would regret not fully pursuing my creativity and sharing it with the world.
