We’re looking forward to introducing you to KayLynn McMurtry. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning KayLynn, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently I turned 25 , and I’ve been reflecting on a promise I made myself when I was 21. I said I wouldn’t spend any of my birthdays from 21-25 in America . And I’m just so proud of myself for sticking to it !
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m KayLynn, the CEO and founder of Lanae’s Lashes, where I specialize in providing luxury lash extension services to my lively and loyal clients. For me, lashing isn’t just about beauty—it’s about giving women a confidence boost and making their daily routines easier.
Over the past five years, I’ve grown my brand to not only serve clients, but also support other lash artists by offering high-quality lash products like lash shampoo, adhesive, and lash trays. What makes Lanae’s Lashes special is the care and passion I put into both my clients and my fellow beauty professionals. I’m excited to continue growing my business, building community, and helping women look and feel their best for years to come
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe that a lack of consideration for others often breaks the bonds between people. Everyone is fighting their own silent battles, and sometimes it’s better to approach others with understanding rather than confrontation over small issues. I like to ask myself, ‘What might they be going through that I don’t know about?’
To restore broken bonds, both people may need to take some space and reflect. With time, understanding the conflict from all sides can open the door to forgiveness and reconnection
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
As an entrepreneur and student , success is very important to me. However , in life there are often times of suffering. Something that suffering taught me was to stay consistent. Shutting down and giving up is sometimes not an option. I say that because when you have clients that rely on you to show up for appointments, no matter what you are going through, you still have to push through to support and service them to the best of your ability.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my mother, Gena Foster for her strength, resilience, and grace. She recently beat breast cancer, and throughout that journey she never lost her faith, her kindness, or her ability to uplift others even while she was in pain. Her character taught me that true power doesn’t come from status or control. It comes from courage, compassion, and perseverance. She inspires me to approach every challenge with hope and humility.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m very confident that I’m doing what I was born to do. My mother and others have always told me that I have “healing hands,” and over time I’ve come to understand what that means. As a lash artist, I use my hands not just to enhance beauty, but to create a peaceful space where people can relax, open up, and feel seen. I often find myself praying with my clients or simply listening to them, sometimes about small things, sometimes about life-changing struggles.
Through those conversations, many of my clients have even started to build a stronger relationship with God. That reminds me daily that my purpose goes beyond lashes. It’s about connection, faith, and helping people feel renewed inside and out. My small business has become a ministry in its own way, and I truly believe this is what I was born to do. In fact , when i initially planned to start training to be a lash artist I was told that it would be a waste of time and money. That has indeed been proven to be wrong as I am now on year five !
