Katie Tyler on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Katie Tyler and have shared our conversation below.

Katie, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I work full-time at a school, so I’m currently enjoying my summer break. These days, a typical day is spent with my two little boys—playing with cars, building forts, exploring playgrounds, and indulging in more ice cream than we probably should. I’m incredibly grateful to have a job that gives me the gift of summer at home with them.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Katie, and I started Katie Tyler Photography in 2022. I’ve always had an interest in photography, but everything changed when I had my oldest son. I wanted to learn how to take better photos so I could preserve the most meaningful moments of our lives.

I began by photographing friends and family, and quickly fell in love with the process. Their trust and encouragement gave me the confidence to turn my passion into a business.

Today, I feel truly honored to connect with people and capture the moments that matter most to them. It’s incredibly important to me that my clients feel comfortable, relaxed, and genuinely seen during our time together.

My goal is to create images that feel timeless—photos you’ll be proud to hang in your home and cherish for years to come.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I was too much.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Be unapologetically yourself-far more interesting than trying to be like everyone else.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I hope they’d say that my family and friends matter most to me—because they truly do. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without their love, support, and presence in my life.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace at the very end of the day—when the house is quiet, everyone is asleep, and I know my family is safe and sound.
