Inspiring Conversations with Ucheonye Maple of Noteworthy Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ucheonye Maple.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Ucheonye Maple, but you can call me Uche. I was born and raised in East Texas, where I spent my childhood a little differently than most girls my age. While others were playing with dolls and dress-up, I was conducting gravity experiments with My Little Pony toys off my grandmother’s roof.

Life took a turn when I was just 8 years old. My father passed away, leaving my mother to raise six of us on her own. It was a challenging time, but our strong faith and our church community became our pillars of strength.

I noticed my mother’s struggle with our old, unreliable cars. It pained me to see her spending money we didn’t have on repairs. That’s when I made a promise to myself: I would learn to fix cars to ease my mother’s burden.

That promise sparked a fascination with mechanics, leading me to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Prairie View A&M University. After graduation, I got my foot in the door of an Aerospace Company. My career took off, and I found myself in love with my work.

But I hadn’t forgotten my promise. And so, when the time was right and I had the means, I did something better than fixing my mother’s old car – I bought her a brand new one.

After 22 fulfilling years in the Aerospace industry, I decided it was time for a new adventure. I retired from my corporate job and founded my own consulting and coaching company, Noteworthy Consulting. I now work with organizations to increase team engagement and job satisfaction, helping them attract and retain top talent.

More than that, I’ve dedicated myself to empowering other professional women, sharing my wisdom and experiences to help them start their own consulting, coaching, and speaking businesses confidently.

My journey from the rooftops of East Texas to the Aerospace industry’s heights, and now as an entrepreneur, has been a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of a childhood promise. I’m living proof that with passion and dedication, you can create a legacy and build wealth.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My life has been a journey of highs and lows, triumphs and trials. When I gave birth to my first child, my heart swelled with joy. I was a new mom, brimming with pride and anticipation. But during what should have been a time of celebration, my world was turned upside down. My older sister, my rock, was battling cancer, and tragically, she didn’t win the fight.

My world was rocked. I was drowning in an ocean of grief, struggling to stay afloat. I was torn between the joy of my newborn and the raw pain of losing my sister. It was a terrain I didn’t know how to navigate, a sorrow I didn’t know how to bear.

But then, a beacon of hope appeared in the form of a friend’s advice. Their words became my lifeline, encouraging me to face my pain head-on, to heal, and to be present for my child. It was a perspective shift that led me from mourning to gratitude.

Instead of dwelling on the devastating loss of my sister, I began to give thanks for the time we had shared. I had been blessed with 29 years in her presence, 29 years of shared laughs, shared dreams, and shared love. Her wisdom, her kindness, and her courage had been a gift, a gift that I would carry with me for the rest of my life.

The pain of losing her will never completely fade, but I’ve learned to make peace with it. Her memory is a part of me, intertwined with the love I have for my child. And through this journey of love, loss, and healing, I’ve discovered my strength and resilience.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
In the tapestry of my life, woven with a myriad of experiences, triumphs, and trials, two golden threads have remained constant, guiding me through every twist and turn.

The first is my unwavering faith, my anchor in the stormiest seas. It’s been my lighthouse, illuminating my path when others insisted I was heading toward a cliff. It’s given me the courage to press on when the crowd demanded I stop, and the wisdom to pause when they urged me to run. My faith has been my compass, always pointing me in the direction of my true north.

The second guiding thread has been a supportive community, a haven where I could fail without fear. In this sanctuary, I’ve learned that failure is not a pitfall but a stepping stone. It’s within this community that I’ve found the strength to challenge the status quo, to dare to do the things that “we don’t do.”

“You can’t succeed where they’ve failed,” I’ve been told. “What makes you think you can?” they’ve asked. But every time doubt cast its long shadow over me, my community was there, like a chorus of voices rising against the wind, encouraging me to get back up, to keep fighting, to keep making a difference.

So, as I journey on, I carry these invaluable lessons with me. My faith gives me the sustenance to persevere, my community offers a safe space for exploration and growth, and together they form the foundation of my resilience. They’ve taught me that it’s not just about reaching the destination, but how I navigate the voyage. And with faith as my compass and a supportive community as my crew, I know I’m ready to weather any storm.
