Today we’d like to introduce you to Trinity Bratton.
Hi Trinity, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I made my first wig in high school with hair I ordered off Amazon and my friend wore it and got so any compliments. From there I started to do things like color my own extensions and learn how to curl my own hair. I just had a love for hair. I would research vendors and try hair from different people and it always sparked my interest. Fast forward to the covid era, that is when my interest in a business started, I was a sophomore in college with interests in wigs and that’s when I started sewing wigs by hand since i couldn’t get to the hair salon. I would pick a vendor from over seas , order that with my college refund check and then record videos of me sewing , customizing, and wearing the wig. From there i had many different inquiries and it led me to then offer wig services. I started off with wig constructions and revamps. The revamps were what really drew people in. It’s something about seeing a vision in a wig that people think is damaged or ready to throw away and being able to make it into something pretty and wearable. I then begin to research sewing machines and how to properly sew wigs on a machine and that is when i realized that this was my passion. To create something completely from scratch to make women feel good. My focus was also styles that protect the hair. Which is why I offer glueless wigs. With me caring a lot about my natural hair health, I figured I would share that with women who want the tension free and glueless styles. From my research and seeing that most wigs that are easily accessible do not fit , my focus was to create wigs that are exactly the style and fit that you are looking for. Between learning how to properly make wigs to match peoples head size, customizing and learning the machine, and just a passion for hair, what started out as something to keep me feeling pretty and uplifted during covid turned into me creating my brand T’LuXperience.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I continued through college and got my degree in Information Systems. After graduating I then transitioned into corporate America. During my time working my 9-5 i still took some clients here and there for extra money but I can say I was not doing hair full time or giving it 100%. 2 years passed and I realized corporate is not for me. I love creating and my struggle was choosing what my next steps were in life. This then led to me quitting my 9-5 and pursuing wig making full time. Some other struggles would be wig making is about learning and perfecting technique. It’s not just throwing hair on a wig cap and it looks good. It’s measuring my clients, learning the machine, and now also recording the content to bring in the clientele. So balancing it all can be a struggle sometimes. Another struggle would be trying to maintain affordability for my clients while also having to keep up with the economy. It’s like you want to stay affordable but prices are increasing. So sitting down and creating pricing formulas and seeing where I can eat the cost of certain things is something I have struggled with. But my main focus is always keeping the client in mind even if i have to cheat myself sometimes.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a custom Gluless Wig maker based in Baltimore. I specialize in creating wigs that cater to your head size and giving you a ready to wear experience for you to skip sitting in the salon for hours. Along with creating glueless closure wigs, I create upart wigs , flip over wigs, and do quick weaves. All the styles that reduce tension for the girls. I feel like what sets me apart from others would be that i actually create wigs. To me it’s easy to find a vendor order a wig from them and sell it. But to actually create a whole wig by hand to ensure a good fit I feel like it makes a difference in the consumers experience. I am most proud of the community I have grown. While most of my recent clients have came from social media, A LOT of my clientele is from word of mouth and to me that means a lot. I want readers to know that my brand is about giving you a custom look but also using what you have. I know a lot of stylist have policies where you can’t reuse hair but I am an advocate for using what you have. So if you think you can’t reuse those bundles in your closet, just bring them my way and I can create you a whole new look with a custom unit.
What matters most to you?
With my brand what matters to me most is how i impact other people and make them feel. I feel like people spending money with you means that there is a level of trust there. So in exchange I strive to do everything i can get make them feel good about their self.
