Today we’d like to introduce you to Nealey Stapleton.
Hi Nealey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My entire life story?! It starts in Houston, Texas where I was born in the eighties and meanders to different states throughout my childhood. Then I went to American University in Washington, DC for college which is how I ended up on this coast in the mid-Atlantic region. From there it blossoms to starting my organizing business, marrying my husband (who I met in college) and having 2 kids who we are raising in Fairfax, VA.
There’s so much I could say about my life. I have had a very good life, with its challenges and hardships of course, but a blessed one for sure. I have my family to thank for that – the family that raised me and the family my husband and I have created. I wake up every day grateful for it all.
In terms of how it started and how I got to where I am today, there’s one major mindset shift I can attribute my success to (that I will mention throughout this interview) – learning to ride the waves rather than trying to control the ocean. Once I made this mental shift, which was a process by the way (not like a light switch!), everything going on in my life (business, relationships, parenthood, everything!) got so much easier to manage and the journey became so much more fun.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I actually wouldn’t describe the road as smooth or bumpy. I would describe life like waves on the ocean (as I mentioned before). Once you learn how to ride the waves instead of trying to control the ocean, you really enjoy the journey.
One of the waves I had to learn how to navigate was my parents’ divorce. They split up when I was young, and it was a long road for me to process it mentally. However, once my mindset shifted to riding that wave rather than trying to control it – or worse, turning my back on it (which everyone knows you can’t turn your back to the ocean without getting hurt!) – things got better. My daily mood, the relationship with my parents, and my mental health as a whole all benefitted.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about On Track Organizing, LLC?
I like to tell people I was born organized, and it’s actually true! At age 5, I was arranging my grandparents’ shoes by size and color. At age 10, I was helping friends line up their Barbies by preference and sorting the accessories by likeness. At age 16, I was cleaning out my best friend’s closet. (Now of course, this helped her, but you better believe I went home with some awesome items that she didn’t want!) At age 22, I was setting up my boyfriend’s (now husband’s) closet and teaching him how to maintain. And now, I am a professional organizer helping my clients get and stay on track on a regular basis and have been doing this for almost 20 years. I LOVE IT!
I’m a professional organizer, an author, a small business owner, an adoring wife, a smitten mom, a Pug lover, a cheese addict, and a happy napper. My strong passion for organizing motivated me to transform this inherent talent into a professional service, and I absolutely love helping my clients declutter and improve their daily lives.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Definitely being able to ride the waves! Like I said previously, learning to ride the waves rather than trying to control the ocean is a huge mindset shift that can mean the difference between struggle and success. There are always going to be bumps in the road. How you react to them is what counts.
