Inspiring Conversations with Naasira Yasin of Bounce Hair Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naasira Yasin.

Naasira Yasin

Hi Naasira, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I always knew how to do hair but really didn’t want to pursue it. After graduating high school, I attended community college. I quickly found out that wasn’t for me because I’m a hands on learner. In 2012, I attended hair school. I graduated in 2014 and did hair part time. In 2018, I decided to do hair full time. At that time, I was managing a blowdry bar up until the pandemic. When they closed in 2020, I didn’t know what I was going to do. After dedicating endless hours and days to someone else’s business and dreams, I decided to bet on myself. I started Bounce Hair Studio in the middle of the pandemic. Five years later, I’m still here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, the pandemic was a gift and a curse. After being let go, I saved up every penny I had for those months. I decided it was now or never to step out on faith and start doing hair in my own salon suite. Business was slow in the 1st year but I promoted on every platform I could find. I was doing specials where blowouts were $45, lol anything to get my name out there.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bounce Hair Studio ?
I specialize in hair care, silkpress, blowouts and extensions. I’m known for having “growing hands” lol as they say and still styling real hair. I think what sets me apart is there are so many stylists in Baltimore that can braid, or do a wig install, but there are not enough stylists who are into hair care anymore. Personally, I don’t play about taking care of your real hair. I want people to love their hair and have the option to wear their hair or extensions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t call it luck, I call it support. My clients, friends and family are my biggest supporters. Whether it’s reposting on social media or simply word of mouth, everyone promotes on my behalf. My mom is one of my biggest supporters! She even helped me decorate my suite. My overall support system is phenomenal. Support and my belief in God, has me booked out a month in advance. I’m forever grateful and blessed.
