Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Steinke.
Hi Mary , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path to founding Indu Wellness has always been rooted in caring for people.
Before opening Indu, I was teaching yoga and running an eco-friendly cleaning business. Both experiences shaped me in big ways. Yoga deepened my understanding of the mind–body connection, and my cleaning business reflected my desire to create healthier environments for people to live in. Eventually, I realized I wanted to work more directly with the body in a hands-on healing capacity, so I made the leap to sell my business and go to massage school.
That decision changed everything.
Massage therapy opened the door to a deeper understanding of how stress, pain, and lifestyle show up physically. My curiosity kept growing, which led me back to school about five years ago to pursue a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. That training expanded my perspective even more, allowing me to support clients not just structurally, but holistically — looking at the full picture of their health and well-being.
When I opened Indu Wellness, my goal was to create the kind of space I felt was missing — somewhere that blends skill, intention, and genuine care. This year, as we celebrate 10 years, I’m incredibly proud of how that vision has grown into a community-centered wellness space where people come not just for services, but to feel supported, seen, and restored.
Every step of my journey — from yoga to green cleaning to massage to acupuncture — has been built on the same foundation: helping people feel better in their bodies and more at home in themselves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all — and I think that’s true for most small business owners, even if we don’t always talk about it openly.
Building Indu Wellness has been incredibly rewarding, but it’s also required resilience, flexibility, and a lot of learning along the way. There are the usual challenges of entrepreneurship — wearing all the hats, balancing finances, building a client base, and learning how to grow without burning out.
There have also been larger challenges that impacted the wellness industry as a whole, especially during COVID, including navigating unexpected closures and shifts in how we care for clients while keeping everyone safe. Those moments were stressful, but they also pushed me to adapt, clarify my values, and build a stronger foundation for the business.
Every obstacle has ultimately helped shape Indu into what it is today — not just a place that provides services, but a resilient, heart-centered space built on trust, community, and a genuine commitment to helping people feel their best.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Indu Wellness?
At Indu Wellness, we focus on results-driven care delivered in a warm, welcoming environment. We offer massage therapy, acupuncture, organic esthetic services, and heat therapy (infrared sauna and steam room), all designed to support both relaxation and long-term well-being. Our approach blends clinical knowledge with a deeply personalized touch, so clients feel both cared for and truly seen.
What sets us apart is the intention behind everything we do. We’re not a high-volume spa — we are a relationship-based wellness space. Treatments are customized, and we take the time to understand what’s really going on in someone’s body and life. Our goal is to create an environment where people feel comfortable, supported, and safe — whether they’re coming in for pain relief, skincare, stress reduction, or simply a moment to breathe. Many of our clients have been with us for years, and that sense of trust and community is a source of great pride for me.
Brand-wise, what means the most to me is that Indu Wellness has grown through word of mouth and genuine relationships. We’ve built a space where self-care is treated as essential, not indulgent, and where every person who walks through the door is met with skill, compassion, and respect.
I want readers to know that Indu Wellness is more than a place to book a service — it’s a place to reconnect with yourself, feel supported in your health journey, and experience care that’s both thoughtful and effective.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say genuine care has been the most important part of my success.
Skills can be learned and businesses can evolve, but truly caring about the people you serve — and the experience they have with you — is what builds trust and lasting relationships. From the very beginning, my focus has been on creating a space where people feel comfortable, listened to, and supported, not just treated.
That same care extends beyond clients to my team and the overall environment at Indu Wellness. I believe when people feel valued and respected, it shows in the energy of the space and in the quality of the work being done. Over time, that consistency and heart-centered approach have built a loyal community, and that’s something I’m incredibly grateful for.
At the end of the day, techniques and trends may change, but leading with empathy, integrity, and real human connection is what has allowed both me and Indu Wellness to grow in a meaningful, sustainable way.
