Inspiring Conversations with Marty Smith of Bojiis Business Affairs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marty Smith.

Hi Marty, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?

I’ve always been the fancy one in the family. As a child, I was the innovator—the one who drew people in, made them curious, and made them want to be part of whatever I was presenting. As the eldest of six siblings, I was born to create beautiful experiences.

It started with family gatherings, where I effortlessly added extra layers of detail and love—and everyone felt it. That’s when I realized Bojiis could be more than just event planning and decor. It could be a brand that blends emotional depth with artistic presentation, creating celebrations that resonate long after the party ends.

For over a decade, I’ve curated timeless, one-of-a-kind decor pieces that can be styled with upcoming trends or stand alone in their own elegance. Bojiis is known for personalized, sentimental touches—especially our signature elements that speak to the soul of each celebration.

We want people to feel the event—to leave with lasting emotional impressions captured in photos, laughter, and the smiles of those celebrating alongside them. It’s their story, and we’re honored to help tell it.

Bojiis isn’t just tablecloths, centerpieces, or a client checklist. It’s about capturing the spirit of the people we’re celebrating. Bojiis is my tribute to storytelling through celebration. It’s where creativity meets elegance, and where every event becomes a meaningful memory.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Yes, it’s been smooth and intentional. I’ve always believed in moving slowly and steadily to win the race. That [jack-in-the-box] mindset is what brought me to where I am today—able to plan a 100-person wedding tomorrow using only the inventory I’ve carefully collected over the years.
That slow and steady approach benefits me and my clients. When they come to Bojiis, they’re not just getting decor or planning services. They’re getting someone who’s prepared, grounded, and fully present. Someone who’s been through the behind-the-scenes hustle and knows how to bring calm to the chaos.

I’ve built Bojiis with intention, not impulse. Every piece of inventory has a story. Every decision has been made with care. That’s why I can walk into a venue and transform it with what I already have—because I’ve spent years curating not just items, but elegant experiences.
I’ve also secured business bank accounts, trade lines, business credit, and established a list vendors/merchants which allows me to operate with flexibility and professionalism. I didn’t take shortcuts—I built a foundation that can support growth, creativity, and longevity. Bojiis is more than a business. It’s the result of patience, purpose, and passion. And now, I’m stepping into this season with confidence, ready to serve, ready to celebrate, and ready to continue learning as I grow. During COVID, I took a class at New York Institute for Arts & Design (NYIAD) to familiarize myself with the fundamentals of décor.

I started as a sole proprietorship, then converted to an LLC. Quality inventory is expensive, and I wanted to maintain a profit—so I got creative. Over the years, my birthday, anniversary, and “just because” wish lists were filled with items for Bojiis. One year, my family gifted me stanchions. Another year, LED table lamps, vases, chairs, tables—you name it. My community of family and friends invested in me, not just with love, but with tangible support. That generosity gave me a leg up and helped me build a robust inventory while keeping my profit margins strong.

When my corporate job contract wasn’t renewed, I knew it was time to go full-time. I haven’t looked back. Since then, Bojiis has continued to grow steadily. I’m now an approved vendor for Prince George’s County Public Schools, and I am proud to have landed the 2025 Senior Prom at the Gaylord National Resort in Oxon Hill. That was a major milestone—and a moment of affirmation that I made the right decision.

Things are moving smoothly, and business is steady. I’m grateful, I’m grounded, and I’m ready for what’s next.

As you know, we’re big fans of Bojiis Business Affairs. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Bojiis is a full-service event planning and décor firm built on the belief that elegance should be affordable. Our motto says it best: “Your AFFAIRS are our BUSINESS.” We specialize in creating simple, elegant experiences that honor life’s most meaningful moments—whether it’s a baby shower, milestone birthday, retirement celebration, or intimate gathering. We work across a wide range of budgets without ever compromising on style or sentiment.

What sets Bojiis apart is our design philosophy: less is more. We focus on thoughtful details and emotional resonance rather than excess. Our inventory is timeless, curated with care, and styled to elevate any space with grace and intention. We’re known for creating events that feel personal, heartfelt, and beautifully understated.

One of my proudest brand moments is that Bojiis has remained completely self-sufficient—built without business loans or debt. That financial independence has allowed me to grow with intention and integrity and pass savings on to my clients.

Looking ahead, I’m preparing to purchase land and build an event hall where Bojiis can expand its offerings. The space will be available for rental and will also serve as a venue for art shows, poetry slams, open mics, and charitable events—creating a hub for creativity and community connection.
Ultimately, Bojiis is about more than events—it’s about honoring people, telling stories through design, and creating experiences that linger long after the last guest leaves.

How do you think about happiness?

Community and family is happiness. For me, joy comes from within and shared through connection—being part of something bigger than myself and creating spaces where others feel seen, valued, and celebrated.

Whether I’m planning an event, writing a story, or dreaming up a future venue for art and expression, it’s always about bringing people together. I find happiness in the laughter shared at a milestone birthday, the quiet emotion of a retirement toast, or the energy of a live jazz night. These moments remind me that we thrive in community. This is a form of giving back—when my work creates opportunities for others to shine. Community isn’t just where happiness lives, it’s where purpose grows.
