Inspiring Conversations with LaTisha Jones of Styled4You Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTisha Jones.

LaTisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Styled4You Boutique, nameless at the time, started as a clipping on a vision board over 20 years ago. I had a long-time desire to create a family-owned and operated business with my daughters in the Fashion-Beauty industry. I’ve always had an innate eye for fashion and was well known for keeping myself and my daughters fashion-forward. As my girls matured into their own personalities, their sense of style blossomed and took things to another level. One of my daughters was always pulling looks together that were well before it’s time. So often, we would see a celebrity or local person emulating a look or style that she had curated months or even years ago. It would amaze me, and I’d always say, OMG, you rocked that look a while back. We would smile and say that the world will see our creativity one day! It was moments like that tugging at me to stop dreaming about our fashion business and put together a concrete plan to actually get started.
Styled4You Boutique (S4YB) was launched initially as an online-only business in November 2018. Soon after, we opened a tiny brick-and-mortar location in Columbia. Upon recognizing the need to reach a broader client base and be more accessible, we moved to our present home in Owings Mills sometime in September 2019.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
I quote the poet Langston Huges when I say, “life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” I’ve struggled with gaining visibility for S4YB. Location, Location, Location is important, and that has been our primary struggle along the way. My first location in Columbia was inside a gorgeous complex filled with suites. However, suites are not ideal for any new small business. It was very secluded, and absolutely no foot traffic outside of those few family and friends who knew about our existing business. It wasn’t an ideal location to grow a business. It ended up being a very costly lesson.
Our new location is within a long-standing shopping center in Owings Mills with tons of daily foot traffic. We still have some new clients say that they had no idea that there was a back side to the shopping center and that they almost overlooked our boutique. Of course, they become repeat clients once we get them STYLED 😉

We’ve been impressed with Styled4You Boutique, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our clients have labeled us as “a hidden gem” in Owings Mills. At Styled4You Boutique, our goal is to provide a customized shopping experience that helps women tap into their personal STYLE! We cater to women from petite to curvy body styles (sizes X-small to 3X). We’re proud to offer the highest quality and unique apparel and accessories. The showroom is filled with eye catching statement pieces that our clients select and cause heads to turn at events such as girls’ night out, brunch, bridal/baby showers, graduations, proms, weddings, wine festivals, date nights, and weekend barbecues. We have a stylist available to assist clients in pulling their looks together. Our clients also have access to appointments with a makeup artist, Kells Kollection, within the boutique. Clients also have plenty of access to free parking in a safe environment.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I depend first on God for strength and direction in my life and in my business. I often say that God is the actual CEO of Styled4You Boutique! I also am intentional about surrounding myself with like-minded women who inspire me and hold me accountable. I’m a member of The WELL by NLD and a group previously known as Chicks with Cheques, both communities of primarily African American women entrepreneurs. I’ve also invested in training and workshops from other women in the fashion industry who serve as my mentors.
