Inspiring Conversations with Kenny Futrell of Westwolf Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny Futrell.

Hi Kenny, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In September 2021, I wanted to change my unhealthy habits that I got during the pandemic. I started going to the gym, eating healthy, and taking care of myself. After 3 or 4 months of working out, I gained 30 lbs. and felt more confident. I thought, ‘How can I help others make a similar change in their life?’ So, I started posting my workouts on Instagram and TikTok. At first, not many people saw them, but then more and more people started asking about my diet and workouts. I started coaching people online and by June 2022, I also started training people in person. I used the same methods that helped me make a change in my lifestyle to help others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! It was really hard for me to believe in myself when I first started because I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be an entrepreneur. I had to tell myself that I can do this and even if it doesn’t work out, I can use what I learned to try something else.

Another challenge was learning how to budget for my business instead of just for myself. I had to be careful with how much money I spent and save some for emergencies. It’s good that I learned this early because sometimes business is slow, and I know I would need cash to keep it going during those times.

We’ve been impressed with Westwolf Fitness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Westwolf Fitness, we provide 1:1 Online Fitness Coaching, In Person Training, and Fitness E-Books geared towards using a mix of weight training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to achieve our clients’ fitness goals. We focus on helping people to learn how to make healthy choices on their own. This helps our clients develop healthier lifestyles and prevent them from reverting back to their prior one.

We are most happy, not necessarily when my client loses or gains weight, but when our clients start making healthier choices, like picking a healthy meal at a restaurant instead of something they might not usually choose. It means they are changing the way they think about food and are more likely to make healthy choices for a long time.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the developing food scene in Baltimore! There are new restaurants popping up every day which adds so much variety to the food scene here.

I hate the stigma that the city has developed from the Wire and the Freddie Grey Riots. The city is changing every day and it’s more beautiful and vibrant than the rest of the nation will see.
