Inspiring Conversations with Jinhua Qian of Sanare Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jinhua Qian.

Jinhua, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into acupuncture began with a deep belief in holistic healing and a strong academic foundation in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, the top-ranked university for Chinese medicine in mainland China, and later completed my Master’s degree at the China Academy of Medical Sciences, which is recognized as the No. 1 institution for Chinese medicine research in China. This rigorous training gave me both classical knowledge and a research-driven perspective on healthcare.

After moving to the United States, I saw a powerful opportunity to bridge Eastern medicine with Western healthcare systems. I was inspired by how many patients were seeking natural, effective solutions for chronic pain, stress-related conditions, and long-term health issues—often after conventional treatments had fallen short. Acupuncture offered a way to treat not just symptoms, but the root causes of imbalance in the body.

I founded Sanare Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine in Maryland, where I have now been practicing for over 8 years. Building the clinic from the ground up was both challenging and deeply rewarding. Through patient education, personalized treatment plans, and evidence-informed care, the clinic has grown to serve thousands of patients and has earned over 80 five-star Google reviews. Today, we specialize in conditions such as low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, and stress-related disorders, and we proudly accept major insurance plans to make acupuncture more accessible.

Beyond clinical practice, my mission has expanded to education, community impact, and mentorship. I am passionate about empowering families through preventative care, developing digital health education programs, and supporting other practitioners in building sustainable, ethical acupuncture businesses. Looking ahead, I am also committed to expanding access to care for underserved communities and continuing to elevate acupuncture as an essential part of modern integrative medicine.

For me, acupuncture is not just a career—it is a lifelong calling to heal, educate, and create meaningful change in people’s lives.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“It definitely has not been a smooth road.”

When I first started, I worked in other clinics to gain experience in both acupuncture and massage. In 2018, I decided to open my own practice—but I started very small. I rented a single room inside a chiropractor’s office, believing that if I provided good care, patients would naturally come.

The reality was very different.
For the first six months, I had literally zero patients. No walk-ins, no referrals—nothing. Financially and emotionally, that was one of the hardest periods of my career. I reached a point where I told the clinic owner, Dr. Kay, that I couldn’t afford to continue and would need to move out.

Instead of letting me leave, he encouraged me to keep going and showed incredible support by reducing my rent from $400 to $200. That moment meant a lot to me—not just financially, but emotionally. It gave me one more chance to believe in myself.

Shortly after that decision, things slowly began to change. Patients started coming in—one at a time. I focused on results, patient trust, and word-of-mouth referrals. Growth was gradual, but it was real.

In 2022, I reached my first $100,000 in annual revenue

In 2024, the clinic exceeded $200,000

In 2025, we reached $500,000 in revenue

And our projected revenue for 2026 is over $700,000

Looking back, the struggle taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of persistence even when there are no immediate results. That difficult beginning shaped how I run my clinic today—with humility, discipline, and deep respect for every patient who walks through the door.

We’ve been impressed with Sanare Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is Sanare Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, a patient-centered integrative healthcare clinic located in Catonsville, Maryland. We provide evidence-informed acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine services with a strong focus on long-term results and whole-person care.

We specialize in two core areas:
pain management and fertility support.

In pain management, we are known for treating low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, particularly for patients who have not found lasting relief through conventional treatments. Our goal is not just pain reduction, but improved function, mobility, and quality of life.

In fertility care, we offer acupuncture support for both women and men, including those trying to conceive naturally as well as patients undergoing IVF and IUI. Our fertility-focused treatments aim to improve blood flow to reproductive organs, regulate hormonal balance, reduce stress, and support overall reproductive health. We take a personalized, cycle-aware approach and work to complement Western fertility treatments whenever applicable.

What sets Sanare apart is the depth of clinical training and integration of care. I was trained at top Traditional Chinese Medicine institutions in China and bring a research-informed, results-driven mindset into every treatment. At the same time, we operate fully within the U.S. healthcare system — emphasizing professionalism, transparency, and insurance accessibility. This ability to bridge Eastern medicine with Western medical standards defines our brand.

What I am most proud of, brand-wise, is the trust and credibility we’ve built in our community. Our clinic has grown primarily through patient referrals and has earned over 300 five-star in Google reviews and Zocdoc platform, reflecting consistent outcomes and patient satisfaction. We also accept major insurance plans, which allows more people to access high-quality acupuncture care.

What I want readers to know is that Sanare is more than an acupuncture clinic — it is a supportive healing space where patients feel heard, respected, and guided. Whether someone is seeking relief from chronic pain or support on their fertility journey, our focus is always on thoughtful, individualized care and meaningful, lasting results.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe my success comes from the ability to stay consistent even when results are slow or uncertain. In the early years of my business, there were long periods with little external validation, but I continued to show up, improve my skills, and focus on patient outcomes. That consistency built trust, referrals, and long-term growth. Whether in patient care or business decisions, I don’t look for quick wins—I focus on sustainable progress, and that mindset has made all the difference.
