Inspiring Conversations with Jamie Tyler of The Jamie Tyler Foundation and J&J Entertainment Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Tyler

Hi Jamie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Jamie is a public figure, well known event/party coordinator, and reality star of the new OWN reality show Love & Marriage DC.

In 2009, Jamie and his partner started J&J Entertainment Group LLC, an entertainment company based out of Washington DC. In the early days, just two local guys with a small following and popular in the community. They started off by hosting a weekly high school reunion event at a local lounge called “Pacific Café” located on Capitol Hill, in Washington DC. After 3 years of hosting every Friday night at Jordan 8 in Capitol Hill DC, the owner decided to shut the doors for good.

As a result of the hard work and dedication they gave to the weekly event, J&J’s brand had become known all over the DMV and beyond. J & J Entertainment Group is still your exclusive guide to the hottest social, cultural, and professional events in the Washington, DC metropolitan area today. We only host our events at the finest venues and use the hottest DJ’s, MC’s, bands, and talent.

In 2024 Jamie launched his Jamie Tyler Foundation that will be dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and providing support to those who are struggling. As you may know, mental health is a topic that affects so many people, yet it can still be taboo for some to talk about. That’s why this foundation is working hard to break down those barriers and create a safe space for open conversations. The Jamie Tyler Foundation offers resources, support groups, educational events, and clinical Training (Preparing you to effectively address various mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, grief, stress, relationship difficulties and suicidal ideation.

Jamie was also a 25 year veteran Detective Grade 2 of the Metroplitan Police Department in DC and has since retired in 2022.

Jamie is also happily married to Erana for 27 years and has 3 beautiful children Brittany, Jamie IV, and Jayson.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s has not been a smooth road at all! Some of the struggles include balancing my career as a detective in Washington D.C. with the demands of raising Jayson, our son with special needs and supporting my incredible wife, Erana with her business endeavors, has been a journey of resilience.

Each struggle has only strengthened my dedication to my family, my work, and my mission to make a difference. The challenges were real but my goal to win was always the bigger picture.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Jamie Tyler Foundation: The Jamie Tyler Foundation, INC was founded in May of 2024 by former Metropolitan District of Columbia Police Detective James Bernard Tyler III who saw a need for more accessible mental health resources in our community.

The mission: Our mission is to reveal the hidden struggles, deal with the root causes, and heal the wounds of individuals affected by mental health challenges.
Together we aim to destigmatize mental health issues, provide resources for recovery and foster a community of resilience, hope and healing. We partner with Clinical & Forensic Associates, Jacobs Ladder Youth Foundation, and a variety of organizations and businesses in our community to provide comprehensive mental health services to those in need.

Over 15 years later J&J is still the focal point for many of your upscale outings in and out of the DMV area and is currently hosting monthly events in the MGM casino located in the National Harbor.. J&J is also currently doing events in Baltimore MD during the CIAA Basketball Tournament weekend. J&J has promoted events since it was relocated to Baltimore and hosted events in Charlotte NC for 12 years previously.

J&J is well known for being one of the pioneers of the “day party” movement in the DC region dating back to 2010. J&J was also well known for bringing many well known national recording artist and celebrities to DC from 2010 until now.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
J & J Entertainment Group: Celebrating 15 years of success wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support and dedication from our incredible partners and friends! Huge thanks to my wife Erana Tyler, our day one supporter; Mentors Marc Barnes, CEO of The Park at 14th; Abdul Khanu, CEO of Air DC; Jordan Capolla, CEO of Jordan’s 8; and Doc Hayes, owner of numerous brands and restaurants.

I have to mention the local and out-of-state promoters who we have collaborated with over 15 years, The DMV venue owners as well as the out of state venue owners who allowed us to utilize their venues, and our day one loyal supporters and clients who believed in us from the start—J&J Entertainment Group is grateful for each of you.
