Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Zade.
Hi Heather, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I became a registered nurse in 2009 in Upstate New York and my first job was working in a pediatric intensive care unit. I learned so much working there and really loved that job. While working there, I met my husband who was an intern at the time in the orthopaedic residency program. I then graduated with my nurse practitioner degree in 2011. I worked as a Hospitalist and eventually was offered a part-time job in aesthetics which is when I realized that aesthetics is what I was actually good at.
I come from a very close family in Upstate New York and when my husband found out that he was going to be moving to Baltimore, Maryland for work I knew it was going to be extremely hard for me to leave my whole support system – my family, job and friends. But we ended up moving to Baltimore, Maryland in 2017. I originally took a job at a Johns Hopkins Hospital in Howard county as a Hospitalist NP and a part-time job at an aesthetics clinic as well. I completely fell in love with aesthetics and love the feeling of maing people feel better about themselves. I gave birth to my daughter in 2019 and very quickly to my son in 2020. I delivered my son during the height of the Covid pandemic and knew I could not work the hours that these jobs required, and I more than anything wanted to be able to stay home and raise my children. Many people told me I should continue to do aesthetics on the side even if it was part-time..
So I took the plunge and decided to open my own business in the middle of Covid doing aesthetic injections including Botox and filler. I wasn’t sure how this would work out, but it allowed me the freedom to stay home and raise my children so I was happy with that. I originally was working right out of my home and did not know the first thing about owning a business! I think in the beginning word of mouth helped grow the practice and then social media helped me to be able to showcase my work to a larger group of people. I am still very surprised and extremely grateful that the business grew so fast and is continuing to grow. I never thought that I would be able to make a living owning my own business and at the same time being able to raise my children the way I want to raise them.
During this year I have hired my first two employees and I am still learning the ins and outs of running your own business. We partner and collaborate with many local businesses and do pop-up events all around the DMV area. I find it extremely rewarding and also very challenging every day but I finally feel like I found my place and I’m doing what I absolutely love to do.
Clients come to me wanting to feel the best that they can feel and I love being able to help them achieve that. It is an amazing feeling knowing you are adding beauty, confidence, and maybe even happiness to another human being.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel that starting my own business during a pandemic was a huge risk and has presented challenges every single day. What I thought would be a very small side gig while I raise my children at home turned out to be my full-time job. I remember going to bed at night after the kids were asleep and reading endlessly about running a business. I really had no idea how much I had to learn about the business side of things. Injecting is the easy part! I am learning every day what it takes to run a business and I am still continuing to learn, sometimes not so easily what owning your own business entails. And a huge personal challenge at this time is trying to juggle the time that is needed to run a business while raising 2 children. I still have a lot of off-hours, many evenings and weekends due to having two toddlers at home still! But I honestly wouldn’t change a thing.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Adora Aesthetics?
Our clinic offers tons of aesthetic procedures from facial enhancement procedures to fat loss and cellulite reduction. We also offer microneedling facials and IV drip therapy. I absolutely love doing lip filler. Personally it has become my favorite procedure to do.
I think that cosmetic procedures on the face should look extremely natural and never overdone.
I always tell my clients the goal is for someone to look at you and really be like wow you look so awake and beautiful but not to know you actually had any work done. The main vision of our practice is to enhance people’s own features and beauty and to feel their best and most confident every day.
