Inspiring Conversations with Danielle Hatchell of Expanding Growth Counseling and Wellness, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Hatchell.

Hi Danielle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have a therapy private practice that I started in Upper Marlboro, MD in 2008. I created it because I wanted to be closer to my young children. I decided to open my own therapy business to create hours that worked for my family and me, and to do the type of clinical work that resonated most with me and the population I loved working with: women of color who wanted to incorporate spirituality into their mental and emotional healing, growth, and development.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth, but I learned so much about myself through the process. My coach once told me that being an entrepreneur would point out all the places within me that require healing and growth, and she was absolutely right! There have been many ups and downs. And those ups and downs have shown me where I needed to shore up my boundaries, my self-value, and belief in myself and the work that I’ve been called to do.

In the beginning, it was challenging to get the word out and let people know I was open for business, so I decided to get on insurance panels and offer free meditations in the community. I was so resistant to putting myself out there and nervous about showing up on camera to make videos to advertise my work. I had to work through quieting the voice of my inner sabateur, who was comfortable with me being safe and small. I am grateful for good teachers, courage, and repetition.

Eventually, I made a bold decision to get off all insurance panels in my business because I felt limited in the type of work I could do and the way I wanted to do the work. I no longer wanted insurance companies to dictate who I saw or determine the value of the work I did with my clients. It required a great deal of coaching and support for me to decide to make this type of pivot in my business that would impact the people who were used to seeing me through insurance.

Today, I’m doing the work I love with clients who truly value the work we do together. I am marketing my business in a new way, and I feel energized by the work I get to do in the world and the growth I see in my clients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m a licensed therapist, coach, and spiritual teacher with over 25 years of experience. My work is centered around supporting high-achieving professionals and highly sensitive people who, from the outside, seem to have it all together but internally feel overwhelmed, anxious, or out of alignment.

In my private practice in Maryland, I help clients slow down and understand what’s really driving their anxiety so they can make clearer decisions, set healthier boundaries, and feel more at ease in their lives.

Alongside therapy, I offer spiritual life coaching through Breath of Life Coaching, where I integrate psychological insight with spiritual principles for those who feel called to go deeper in their personal growth.

I’m also the founder of the High Vibing Empath Community, a space created for empaths and sensitive souls to learn how to understand their emotions, care for their energy, and feel more grounded in who they are.

What sets my work apart is the way I blend clinical experience with spirituality in a way that’s practical and relatable. I’m not just focused on helping people feel better in the moment—I support them in creating a life that actually feels aligned and sustainable.

What I’m most proud of is creating spaces where people feel safe enough to be honest about what they’re experiencing and supported enough to make meaningful changes.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I believe that it’s important to choose a mentor who has experienced success and who works in a way that aligns with your values and integrity.

As far as networking, I believe it’s important to connect with people and brands that align with you and your business. I approach networking by being myself and sharing honestly and authentically about the work I do. I love getting to know the people in my network and seeing how we can support one another in elevating our brands, both personally and professionally.
