Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Johnson.
Hi Crystal, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up 10 minutes outside of the busy Washington, D.C. area, where it is the norm to find a lot of ambitious people coming into the area to catapult their careers. With the many of opportunities to advance oneself, I always imagined myself diving into entrepreneurship but had no clue how. I graduated from George Mason University with a Masters in Criminology, Law and Society in 2015 and jumped into working for the Federal Government.
One day on the metro coming from an exhausting day at work, I happened to be on LinkedIn looking at all the wonderful accomplishments my network had going on and thought to myself, “I should start a business!”.
I always had a niche for writing. Friends and family would always come to me to proofread documents, create resumes and cover letters, or to find jobs that they would be a good fit for. I realized that it was a passion of mine to help people around me succeed in finding employment based on creating resumes and cover letters for them. I was taking my talent to help transform another person’s career trajectory and I loved it!
That’s when it clicked for me. Why not turn my talent into a business. I created Johnson Consulting Services LLC in 2019 with the purpose of igniting the confidence of job seekers by creating marketable documents such as résumés and cover letters, in addition to optimizing LinkedIn profiles.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship has been a major learning process for me. The biggest struggle for me was expecting my business to take off as soon as I created my website, Facebook and Instagram accounts. I had to learn so much about marketing in the past two years.
On the journey, I realized that no one opportunity is going to come to you. You have to go out there and network with individuals in your area of expertise and really put yourself out there. These were great lessons learned because I see myself growing in those aspects of owning a business.

Johnson Consulting Services LLC specializes in revamping résumés, transforming cover letters and optimizing LinkedIn profiles. My brand is unique compared to other resume writing services because the job seeker is heavily involved resume writing process. The documents are highly personalized in order to tailor them for specific job opportunities. This is important to ensure the documents really exhibit the job seekers’ qualifications.
I take pride in listening to job seekers and capturing their accomplishments that they have failed to add to the résumés prior to seeking services. Another unique element about Johnson Consulting Services is that services are offered nationwide.
