Inspiring Conversations with Crystal Elliott Alovely Chris of Alovely Enterprises, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Elliott Alovely Chris.

Hi Crystal Elliott, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Alovely Chris, and I’m here to share a bit about my journey. I’m a pilot-in-training to achieve my dreams of soaring through the skies. I am a first generation American from very strict parents at the highest level of excellence. Born in Baltimore, Maryland- a city with a lot of potential and a lot of challenges, graduating a Merit Scholar from every school I attended such as Leith Walk Elementary School, Academy for College and Career Exploration, also graduated from Baltimore City Community College and transferred to University of Baltimore to major in Business Management. I excelled beyond my own potential in areas and chose to specialize in Aviation Business Management. So far I have completed 70 of 1500 hours fully financed by myself. Each hour of training costs $350; and with your help, I can continue my education and move closer to becoming a certified commercial pilot at one of your favorite airlines. This isn’t just about a personal dream—it’s about breaking the cycle of despair, and showing young women and men in our community that they can also reach for the skies.
My vision goes beyond my own achievements. My long-term goal is to create a nonprofit organization, dedicated to supporting youth programs in inner-city areas that will focus on empowering young girls and boys, especially in the field of aviation. By offering mentorships, scholarships, and hands-on training, we can open doors to careers they might not have considered. My dad was a pilot in the Army that flew helicopters. He passed December and never got to finish teaching me all his endeavors with aviation. While he wasn’t my biological dad, he ushered me through my aviation career for the last 10 years before he passed. That is how I got into aviation.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely NOT!
When I first registered for flight training at CCBC/Middle River Aviation, I was never able to fly enough to complete their program; but incurred tens of thousands of dollars of debt. I have invested all my time, money, and life to be able to become a Captain. I have move to Atlanta, Georgia for 2 years to attend a really great flight school owned by Tony Wang, The Flight School of Gwinnett. However, my finances ran out after invested over $80,000 cash in training and expenses; -Oh trust me I have the receipts. This forced me to come back to CCBC/Lee Airport. I haven’t heard from my 13th flight instructor who has ghosted me. Also, many flight instructors are not there to teach: they just prey on student pilots to get their 1500 hours flight training allotment for them to qualify to fly airlines. However; my determination grows stronger everyday and I plan to persevere.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Yes!
First I want to give a shout out to my mentors: -In no particular order, my parents, my godparents Honorable Senator Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, Ricardo & Joan Nugent, Dr. Leslie Jackson, Dr. Quinhon Scott, Dr. Ja’ken Caston, Akin Jones, Cheyanne Zahrt, Mr. A, Alfred Whiting Sr, and Robbin Taylor.
All of my mentors have followed me through adulthood and are some of my biggest supporters. My recommendation would be to find mentors in your community that are of ‘Excellence!’ The mentors I have are my biggest motivators and are very familiar with me, so yes it is personal.
