Today we’d like to introduce you to Christa Mitchell. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Our brewmaster and CEO, Brian Mitchell, has been in the brewing industry for 12+ years and conceptualized Pariah Brewing Company in 2010. We met in 2012 while Brian was working to help start up a brewery and I was a bartender at the said brewery.
We quickly formed a friendship over our shared love for beer and married a few years later. After spending time and gaining experience perfecting his craft and vision, Brian and I decided to open our family-owned brewery.
Pariah Brewing Company opened for business on Feb. 11, 2017, in San Diego, CA, and we just celebrated our 5th Anniversary. We reached max capacity in 2019 (i.e. we couldn’t brew more beer if we tried) and were looking for a perfect spot for expansion but also to capitalize on our distribution needs as a bicoastal brewery.
We came across a familiar location previously utilized by Baltimore-based brewery, Union Craft Brewing, and long-short, very short, agreed to take over this space. Brian is native to Maryland so we took this opportunity for expansion as a homecoming of sorts, establishing our second location in the Hampden/Woodberry area of Baltimore, MD.
We are thrilled to be a part of Maryland beer and share our handcrafted, flavor-focused beer selection with this community. We’re happy to be home!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We’ve been so grateful for the wonderful and supportive communities around us in both Baltimore and San Diego. We certainly empathize to all small business owners over the profound impacts of COVID, both restrictions, and closures but also the rising cost of goods.
It is such an important time for communities to support the businesses that they love to ensure their communities continue to have a variety of wonderful and unique small businesses!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Pariah Brewing Company?
We are fanatical – and quite probably even zealots – when it comes to doing it our own way. Our way means we never, ever settle.
Our way means the enrichment of all, not just a few. We do what we do with pride, passion, and purpose. Providing an amazing product is just one aspect of what we believe in as team Pariah.
Environment, service, and beer. These are our beliefs. If you’re looking for something unique, progressive, challenging – but ultimately very rewarding – then our beers are for you, our fellow pariahs.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My grandparents lived on a boat for most of my upbringing.
Spending time with my family on the water whether it was playing games, sailing, or creating memories is unforgettable and has had a huge impact on my appreciation and love for nature and for the world around me.
