Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your back story.
2017 traveling as a missionary got me into video, grew as a videographer.
Nov. 2017 filmed a wedding and fell in love. I have been passionately pursuing building a wedding-based business. 100% focused on weddings, we don’t have other gigs.
Added photography in 2018, photobooth in 2022, and now virtual wedding coaching is coming soon in late 2024.
We have grown from my one-man operation to a team of 7 full-time and 3 part-time team members.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s always a struggle as an entrepreneur. My worldview on struggle sees it as a positive outcome, meaning the challenge excites me.
The biggest struggle is choosing to pay my family a non-livable salary. We are going through our savings because we believe so strongly in our calling and mission as a wedding company. We know we will have greater returns if we invest now. Budgeting constraints and adaptation to a limited budget put us under a great deal of stress as a family with two kids under 3.
The positive is our discovery of meaningful connections we can have as a family without having to spend money. That mindset helps me stay humble as a business owner and gives me the refreshment I need to show up and be a consistent light and driving force for my business daily.
Other minor struggles include having to learn to delegate areas of your business and completely trust someone else to carry the vision, finding honest and committed staff, and being too busy to deal with small issues; so, then they grow to be bigger issues, and the list could go on.
Being an entrepreneur is no joke, especially when you factor in your own family plus other families now rely on your vision coming to fruition.
