Inspiring Conversations with Cassidy Dawn of Dusk to Dawn Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Dawn.

Hi Cassidy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After high school, I attended James Madison University as an undeclared major. A career exploration class revealed one thing very clearly—I was meant to help people. After exploring several fields, I chose elementary education, but life took a different turn when I became pregnant with my son. I left school and began working in the hospitality and restaurant industry, where I quickly realized how much I enjoyed creating experiences for others.

Soon after my son was born I began working as a food and beverage supervisor, leading a team of servers and bartenders and managing more than 200 events each year—many of them weddings. It was here that I discovered my love for hospitality and the magic of celebrating life’s biggest moments.

Soon there after, I was promoted into event coordination, where I became the client-facing point of contact for weddings. I guided couples through the planning process, built timelines, and executed flawless event days. For several years, I honed my skills by working with wedding venues across Virginia, gaining invaluable insight into both the logistics and emotions behind each celebration.

In 2020, I soft-launched Dusk to Dawn Events with the vision of creating weddings that feel seamless, meaningful, and entirely personal to each couple. What started as a passion project has grown into a full-service planning, coordination, and floral design company serving couples across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. Today, I’m proud to be a full-time entrepreneur—partnering with couples to bring their vision to life, so their wedding day is more than just a blur of champagne and flowers.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, I’m so grateful that my journey has been relatively smooth. I had the privilege of soft-launching Dusk to Dawn Events five years ago while still working full-time, which gave me the space to grow at a steady pace. That said, one of the biggest challenges has been balance- juggling a demanding career while also pouring time and energy into building my business.

Through that season, I learned a lot about myself and the kind of wedding planner I want to be. Early on, I said yes to every client, but experience taught me that the best events come from working with couples who truly align with our style, values, and approach. Now, I approach client relationships as a two-way interview- making sure we’re the right fit for each other. That shift has not only reduced stress, but has also allowed Dusk to Dawn Events to create more meaningful, personalized, and joy-filled experiences for our couples.

Dusk to Dawn Events is a wedding planning and floral design company serving couples across Virginia, Maryland, and DC. We specialize in crafting weddings that feel personal, seamless, and unforgettable—curating every detail so couples can be fully present on their wedding day.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how we’ve grown while staying true to our values: building genuine relationships with couples and local vendors, making planning feel approachable, and treating every wedding as if it were our own family’s celebration. What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe the quality that has contributed most to my success is adaptability. The wedding industry is full of moving parts—timelines shift, weather changes, and unexpected challenges pop up all the time. Being able to stay calm under pressure, think creatively, and adjust in the moment allows me to keep everything running smoothly while giving couples the peace of mind they deserve.
