Today we’d like to introduce you to Armando Retana.
Hi Armando, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I was born in Costa Rica. Moved to the United States when I was 15 years old. Did not know any English. Went to college but got kicked out of college due to my immigration status at the time.
Got my green card and then was able to finish college. I went to medical school and graduate as a Cosmetic Surgeon in 2017 when I moved to DC to start a private practice. I chose this area because I grew up in the DMV. I went to high school here. I also chose DC due to the fact that we have a huge Hispanic population and there are no Latino doctors that do what I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being kicked out of college due to my immigration status was hard on me. I thought that was it. I was never going to become a doctor. But I kept fighting and never gave up.
We’ve been impressed with Lovethatbody DC, PLLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Cosmetic Surgery, especially body contouring procedures. That is my passion. I’m known for abdominal etching and Brazilian butt lifts.
What sets me apart is quality over quantity and how close I am to my patients. I don’t try to do 10 surgeries in one day like clinics in Miami. I do 1-2 per day and make sure the surgery results are optimized. I also recommend post-op care which is something that not everyone else offers around here.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Being happy with what you do. I feel like I don’t work a day in my life. I look forward to Mondays when most people look forward to Fridays.
