Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Zangara
Anthony, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We first started juice bars and health cafes while in college and did that for 10 years. We always wanted to start our own gym but had no idea how. We finally came across a space that had potential and decided to take the leap with creating our own gym brand. Our first 2 years we’re a complete failure as we had no idea what we and our brand would be about, who our members would be, and a real vision for the gym. Once COVID hit, you would think it would be the nail in the coffin, however we used that time to recalibrate our identity and have grown ever since!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting and growing any business there never seems like a smooth road. Even when things are good, it feels like pot holes, construction tape, and at times an impending doom of a up ahead road collapse and major detour! However, that’s what makes it thrilling. We have had countless struggles and issues along the way, but that is when we have been the most laser focused. Being an entrepreneur you have to push through it because it literally is the only way!
As you know, we’re big fans of Grind Baltimore. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We own 2 gyms, one in the inner harbor in Baltimore, and the second in Harford County. We set out to create a gym for all, so when you walk in our space whether it’s your first time stepping in a gym or you are a seasoned veteran-we have something for you. We are an open gym style that has a team of specialized personal trainers and recovery/wellness options from saunas to cold plunges and more. And we do away with all the corporate non-sense, no sign up fees, contracts, or cancellation fees-we make it super easy, as it should be!
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson we have learned is perseverance and persistence, you have to find ways to get through tasks that seem impossible. I think all entrepreneurs have to be a little delusional to do so or they wouldn’t be there. The other lesson we have learned is selflessness, when you’re in the health and wellness business, if you learn to put profit aside for people, in tends to come full circle. We are never concentrated on how much money we can make up front, but what we can do to make a tangible difference first in others life’s, and it usually comes back!
