Inspiring Conversations with Alexis Nance of The Ameliorate Services, LLC and Ceremonies & Creations With Alexis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Nance.

Hi Alexis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for considering me to be a part of this meaningful experience.

My professional journey began when I was asked to serve as a Notary in my workplace. As I took the initiative to research the duties and responsibilities associated with the role, I recognized an opportunity to expand my skills beyond the workplace and into my own business. With a background in administrative and professional services, I founded The Ameliorate Services, LLC to provide reliable and client-focused support.

In 2019, after my husband proposed, I began planning our wedding. When the COVID-19 pandemic paused many aspects of daily life, I used that time to thoughtfully design our special day. With a natural passion for creativity and crafting, I became deeply involved in every detail of the process. During my search for a wedding officiant, I discovered that in many states, notaries are able to perform wedding ceremonies. Unfortunately, this is not permitted in Virginia, which initially left me discouraged, as it was something I felt genuinely drawn to pursue.

One day, while at home, a local official visited my residence while campaigning for re-election. At the end of our conversation, he asked if there was anything he could assist me with. I shared my difficulty in finding the appropriate contact to begin the process of becoming authorized to perform weddings. To my surprise, he responded, “Ma’am, I am who you need to speak with.” In that moment, I felt a strong sense of alignment and purpose.

From that experience, Ceremonies and Creations with Alexis was born allowing me to combine professionalism, creativity, and a passion for celebrating life’s most special moments.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Not entirely. There have definitely been challenges along the way. Balancing my roles as a wife, a mother, and a business owner has required intention, patience, and discipline. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance, staying consistent, and holding on to the vision I have for my business—especially during difficult moments—have all been real and ongoing efforts.

Through it all, I remain grounded in my faith. I am a firm believer that God will never place anything on my plate that I am not equipped to handle. That belief has carried me through moments of doubt and helped me stay focused on my purpose.

I am also incredibly grateful for the support system I have. My husband and son continue to encourage and uplift me, reminding me why I started and motivating me to keep going. In addition, there are several special people in my life who I look up to during challenging times. First, my mother—she is truly my angel on earth. She taught me that family always comes first, and that foundation has shaped how I move in both life and business. My mother-in-law has also been a source of inspiration, giving me a different perspective on what it means to be a woman in business and the importance of staying driven and getting things done.

I also draw strength from my father and my sister, who both continue to support and encourage me in their own ways. Having that strong family foundation reminds me that I am never alone on this journey.

While the road hasn’t always been easy, it has been meaningful, and every challenge has helped shape the woman and business owner I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
One piece of advice I would give to anyone just starting out is to place God first in everything you do. When He gives you a vision, it’s not without purpose. You may be the only one who can clearly see it, and that’s okay it simply means it’s your responsibility to bring it to life. Execution is key.

It’s also important to understand that fear is a natural part of the process. Growth often comes with discomfort, and that doesn’t mean you’re on the wrong path. As the saying goes, “If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough.” Let that fear push you forward rather than hold you back.

Something I wish I knew when I first started is not to allow negative thoughts to interfere with what God has planned for me. Self-doubt can become a major obstacle if you allow it to take control. You have to learn to silence that inner voice and stay focused on your purpose.

Lastly, understand that your only true competition is yourself. Focus on becoming better than you were yesterday, stay consistent, and trust the process. Your journey is uniquely yours, and with faith, discipline, and perseverance, you will see it come to fruition.
