Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonya Ellis.
Hi Tonya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Edutainment Learning Center was created by my husband and me out of a real need we experienced in our own home. After coming home each day and helping our children with homework, we realized there was little to no time left for actual family time.
We knew if we were experiencing that, other families likely were too. When we searched our community for programs that could support both academic success and family balance, we found there were none, so we decided to create one.
What started as a solution for our own household grew into a space where children can learn, build confidence, and develop real life skills in an engaging and supportive environment.
Over the years, Edutainment Learning Center has evolved into a trusted program offering after school services, summer camps, and youth development opportunities. What began as a personal need has grown into something much bigger, creating impact not just for our family, but for many others in the community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road.
When we first opened, we didn’t have any children for months. As a new program in the community, we had to build awareness and, more importantly, earn the trust of parents. That was one of our biggest challenges in the beginning.
There were also moments where we faced obstacles, but those experiences pushed us to stay consistent, improve our systems, and stand firm in our vision.
Over time, our commitment spoke for itself. Families began to trust us, our program grew, and we built a strong reputation in the community.
Looking back, those early challenges were necessary. They didn’t stop us, they strengthened us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Edutainment Learning Center is more than just a place children can go after school. It is a structured environment designed to develop confident, capable, and well-rounded children.
We specialize in after school programs, summer camps, and youth development, but what truly sets us apart is our approach. We focus not only on academics, but also on life skills, structure, and exposure. Our goal is to create an experience where children are learning, growing, and being prepared for real life in a way that feels engaging and meaningful.
That mission has also expanded beyond our physical location. I’ve created educational tools and resources, including our “I am” series composition books and the “Kidpreneur, I Dream Big” workbook to reinforce confidence, identity, and business thinking in children both inside and outside of our program.
We are known for the level of structure, consistency, and professionalism we bring to our program. Families trust us because we provide a safe, organized, and intentional environment where their children are not just supervised, but developed.
What I am most proud of is the impact we’ve made in our community. We’ve built something that started from a personal need and turned it into a program that supports families, creates opportunities for children, and sets a standard for what quality youth programming should look like.
I want readers to know that Edutainment Learning Center is built on purpose. Everything we do is intentional, from how we structure our programs to how we serve our families. We are not just providing a service, we are building future leaders.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband deserves a lot of credit because we built Edutainment Learning Center together from the ground up. Having a partner who shares the same vision and commitment has been a major part of our success.
Our team also plays a huge role. They show up every day committed to the children and the standard we’ve set.
I would also give a lot of credit to the parents of the children we serve. In the beginning, we were a new program in the community, and it took trust for families to choose us. Their support, referrals, and belief in what we were building helped us grow.
It truly takes a village, and I’m grateful for everyone who has trusted, supported, and grown with us along the way.
