Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrance Frazier.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
This is the city of gods shop located at 1118 Hollins St. in Southwest Baltimore. Our clothing shop started 14 years ago. It’s a clothing brand that makes people feel good about wearing clothes that has a meaning, a messages, and brings about an inspiring feeling. When our customers support our brand, we support their goal to look good and feel confident in our clothing and join our movement to express their talent and culture through the arts. We use our great designs and clothing concepts as a way to reach our customers in sentimental way and touch them. The clothes spark dialogue between us and customers/supports, and we find out how people are thinking and feeling. We then use our platform to try to help them achieve success. When Devin Allen, the Time magazine Fame Street photographer who captured the Baltimore riots in 2015, he said that we, COG inspired him to start photography, I knew our shop changed lives dramatically. It all begins with a garment that starts a conversation about a brand-name city of gods. The dialogue will transition into something more meaningful, like the mindset of the brand and ” how did they come up with the name ” then this conversation gets passed on, and it inspires people to spread the message of how we built the brand with superior products and design, we also have community activism and fun. Our customers love our clothing and our events.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The life of entrepreneur, especially in clothing, is based on Trends and the temperament of the population. The beautiful part of the creation of our shop is that we become business owners, and we create garments and events that inspire our customers and supporters. We started in 2008 with the concept of several people coming together to create a brand. It was tough starting out in a recession, and now we see the ups and downs of the economy, and cultural changes make it challenging. I also think this is a beautiful struggle because you learn to grow through the challenges. One minute you’re up with a profit, next minute you have a shipment delayed or problems with inventory, and you’re losing money. They have been sleepless nights and continue to be challenges, but there’s also great rewards and selling out of your product regularly and making money off of what you created.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about City of Gods?
City of Gods is a streetwear brand and entertainment hub owned by Mashari Ingram and Terrance Frazier. As a partner at the city of gods apparel, Frazier is the Evangelist for the brand. His job is to market and spread the good news of what they do from garments to events. City of gods are known as the shop and “go-to” for Baltimore’s hometown heroes. Also, it’s become a destination place in Maryland as well as Washington, DC. To many of the locals, it’s a sanctuary. A place to unwind and have a good experience. They have unique brand of apparel that ranges from sportswear to sophisticated street wear. They also have a unique environment. The important thing is COG stays current and keeps the mindset of giving back to the community since the start of the shop in 2009. They don’t want to build a brand based on an empire of personal control but one that invest in creating good apparel and inspiring people to do great work. They have done and currently have hundreds of collaborations and partnerships with other brands over the years such as UNDER ARMOUR, Nike, Rocnation, and Red Bull.
