Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Rosenberger.
Hi Tara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After the birth of my first child four years ago, I left my corporate job and decided to stay at home to raise my daughter. At seven weeks postpartum, I stumbled upon FIT4MOM Towson and an exercise class called Stroller Strides. I attended the class with a friend and instantly fell in love with the concept. I bought the classes, attended several a week and ultimately become a certified instructor to teach the classes just a few months later. A few months after that, the previous owner of the franchise reached out to her then team and asked if anyone would be interested in purchasing the franchise. I immediately raised my hand and thought this would be the perfect fit. Fitness has always been an important part of my life, whether it be group fitness, yoga (prenatal) and running (high school track through adulthood – 5ks, 10ks and a half marathon), but to be able to do it with my child in tow made the transition to motherhood that much more exciting. Even better, I met a village of other women traveling through the journey of motherhood at the same time as me. We have become a family – we learn from each other and hold each other accountable. We lean on each other when times get tough and laugh at all the fun, hard and easy stages of motherhood. FIT4MOM Towson has given me a sense of purpose when it comes to having a job. My greater purpose in life is to be a mom to my two beautiful children, but owning FIT4MOM Towson has allowed me to have “work” that’s just for me – it has truly changed my life!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The transition to ownership of the franchise had a pretty normal learning curve, as with any business. However, two years into owning, the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country. I had just given birth to my son in February and by March, the country shut down, our classes were canceled and I had to completely re-do my business model. Thankfully, there are other local franchises who I could rely on for help and our corporate headquarters in CA, who provided the nationwide franchises with incredible support during such an unknown and transitional time.
Now that the world seems to be returning back to pre-pandemic life, we recognize the importance of moms needing to get out of the house with their little ones, meet other moms and return to a healthy lifestyle whether that’s during or after pregnancy.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The FIT4MOM brand includes several proprietary exercise classes. At FIT4MOM Towson, we offer Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre, both of which are mommy-and-me style workouts where the children join mom and ride in their stroller. These classes include focus on cardio, strength and core workouts and include what we call “Fun4Baby” – singing, books, bubbles, and other things that engage the kids during class. We also offer a prenatal exercise class called FIT4BABY (moms only). This class is offered in 6-8 week sessions four times a year and focuses on cardio, strength, core, flexibility and balance exercises. FIT4BABY is designed for all trimesters of pregnancy and the changes women will experience during their pregnancy. Lastly, we offer a program called Body Well/Body Boost. These are HIIT-style exercise classes for moms only, focusing on cardio, strength and core. The program is offered in 8-weeks sessions four times a year and includes goal setting, nutrition guides, journaling, accountability and more.
In summary, FIT4MOM Towson specializes in helping women find their fit with exercise programs accommodating prenatal and postnatal fitness. Whether a women is expecting, newly postpartum, or even has older, grown children, there is something for everyone. Our goal is to reach all the moms. Every mom has a place at FIT4MOM Towson.
As we navigate back to a pre-pandemic normal, we continue to offer some programs virtually but are now having classes in-person again. We are starting to incorporate mom’s only in-person events back onto the schedule and playgroups for the kids. Typically, we would offer a mom’s night out once a month and playgroups once per week.
The FIT4MOM brand is very unique. The programs are designed with expertise from physicians, dieticians, ACOG (The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) recommendations and other fitness certifying bodies such as ACE Fitness. Our instructors are certified and specialize in exercise for the changes a women will experience throughout her pregnancy and beyond. Our instructors are also certified in Adult/Child/Infant CPR. We take great pride in the safety of our clients, especially as we operate through the pandemic.
As an owner, I am most proud of the adaptability of my team and my clients. They continue to show up, no matter what the circumstances. It just goes to show that you may show up for the workout, but you gain so much more from our village – long-lasting friendships, fitness/wellness routines to maintain a healthy lifestyle, a chance to bond with your child and set a positive and loving example.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Such a tough question! Truthfully, it has to be when my sister was born. We are 11 years apart in age. Little did I know at the time, but my parents were struggling to conceive, hence the age gap. I remember begging my parents for a sibling. Looking back, I’m sure this caused pain for both of them since they wanted to have more children but could not. My parents were ultimately successful thanks to IVF, which I ended up having to do for my two children as well.
I remember my mom asking if I wanted to be in the delivery room when my sister was born and I, of course, declined because as an 11 year old that just seemed gross. Now that I’m a mom (which took a lot of time, medications, money, etc.), I regret very much not being in the delivery room for such a beautiful experience. But, my baby sister was the real-life baby doll I had always wanted. To this day, we have such a unique bond thanks to that age gap. I definitely was more like a second mom to her than a sister, but it’s also a cool story to share!
