Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Agyapong.
Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Firstly, thank you so much for this opportunity! My name is Rachel and I’m the owner and operator at The Beauty Hive Studio. I’m also a Licensed Esthetician in Maryland and Washington, DC. Prior to starting my business I was in the dental industry for over 6yrs as an Oral Surgery Assistant.
My journey began in 2014 when I started my first company called Fierce Silhouette LLC, an online women’s boutique that offered authentic Colombian Shapewear, intimates, weight loss, and beauty products for women. Growing up I struggled with my weight which is what inspired me to start a Shapewear and fitness boutique. My mission is to empower women to love their bodies and teach them ways to improve their curves naturally.
I’ve always had a love for helping people and a passion for beauty and fitness. Going back to when I was a young girl, I loved to play dress-up and use my mom’s old make-up palettes and perfume bottles I collected from her. My late mother was a strong supporter of beauty and skincare.
I also come from a family of entrepreneurs.
My aunt runs a hair salon, my grandfather ran a grocery store chain in Ghana, and my older brother runs an entertainment company. I feel like their creative and entrepreneurial spirit has inspired me to be the entrepreneur that I am today. In 2016, I started providing cosmetic teeth whitening and eyelash extension services. This started as a side gig to earn extra income. Seeing how much my customers enjoyed their results was so rewarding and inspired me to open my own beauty studio.
In 2017 I discovered non-surgical body sculpting treatments. I began to do my research and started receiving treatments weekly.
This method is used to eliminate fat cells in certain problematic areas safely using low-frequency sound waves with no downtime. I loved my results and I knew my clients would fall in love with these services. From that point, I decided to go back to school to study Esthiology. In 2019, I started attending the Aveda Institute and fell in love with skincare.
I graduated at the top of my class as a salutatorian. Less than a year later The Beauty Hive was established and here we are today.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has definitely not always been smooth! Starting a business is never easy. For the most part It’s been a lot of trial and error For example, when the pandemic began I had to shut down and was unable to take on clients for months.
I was unsure if my business could sustain these times without consequences, it was tough but I stayed consistent and continued to push through. I’ve always been taught that God wouldn’t give me more than I could handle. Keeping a positive mindset is what has helped me along with the support of my family and friends.

We are a private and exclusive beauty studio, conveniently located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. We are rated 5 star on Google and specialize in corrective skincare and non-surgical body services. I also offer a range of other services such as body waxing, eyelash extensions, teeth whitening and more. Our mission is to educate clients while delivering a luxury experience.
Right now I’m in the process of adding other talented beauty professionals to join the team. Also I recently started teaching private Body Sculpting and Cosmetic teeth whitening courses to other budding entrepreneurs and beauty professionals.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success means doing what makes you happy and counting all your victories no matter how big or small. Success is also being able to take on your successes and failures in stride.
Success is being consistent and never taking no for an answer regardless of how long it takes and what obstacles come your way. In addition, learning from your mistakes and applying that knowledge to future situations.
