Today we’d like to introduce you to Mika Morrow.
Hi Mika, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For those who don’t know me my name is Mika Morrow and I hail from Baltimore, Maryland. I am an Inspirational Artist/ worship leader, songwriter, content creator and wife to amazing man that I am blessed to call my husband and a mother of two beautiful human beings. As a child, I was always artistic and musically inclined growing up and expressed myself as such in various ways. My love for the arts would inspire me to audition for B.S.A. ( Baltimore School of the Arts) where I would be accepted to major in voice and piano. As I got older I would still use my gifts, especially in church as a worship leader and also on various recording projects. The musical tutelage that I obtained B.S.A. would open the doorway for me to grace the stage with some of the worlds amazing gospel greats; Ricky Dillard, Norman Hutchins, Tremaine Hawkins and Maurette Brown-Clark just to name a few. I have also been blessed to travel with Pastor Shirley Caesar who has poured into me significantly on a deeper and spiritually level.. a lot of foreseen blessings to come that she has spoken over me throughout the years I am now walking into this very season. Our time together was truly special and God-ordained and played a very intricate part in who I have evolved into today.
Ever since I released my first single “Move’ in 2019, I have been a journey to inspire change not only within myself, but also in others as well. This single is what inspired me to launch my brand M.O.V.E Movement…an athletic, positive apparel clothing line designed to encourage others to break through their mental barriers to accomplish their goals and to resurrect long-forgotten dreams. In the midst of curating my brand, 2021 would be the year that I would release my first ever EP titled “Survivor”, a compilation of songs inspired by the trials and struggles I have faced while I aspired to keep moving regardless of what life was throwing my way. The title track “Survivor” was released to radio and I am grateful and honored that it soared to “48 on the Billboard Gospel Charts! My second single released titled “Alright” featuring Allegro Nevella also made it to #100 on the Billboard Charts as well! Even though struggles and setbacks were determined to not let me catch a break, my purpose throughout the years unmistakably clear, God has endowed me to be a beacon of light to others. I know that I have been called to encourage and motivate others to fulfill their purpose in life while activating their faith. Today I am still encouraging others through my music and also through my social media as well as an established content creator. I also just release my latest EP titled “Get Up” which has been three years in the making and is available on all digital outlets! I am very excited for my faithful fanbase and followers to hear this body of work which encompasses the evolution of Mika and my passion to encourage the nations and all walks of life worldwide! I truly feel so blessed to be able to operate in my God given purpose.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road most definitely has not always been smooth or easy for me throughout my life or musical career. At one point of my life I was constantly depressed and at times I felt as though I didn’t have the strength to do simple basic chores. I was mentally sinking into a dark place, looking back now I realize that I didn’t even know it at the time. I found myself entertaining suicidal thoughts, I had made some mistake in my life and as a result my biological family turned away from me, even friends and associates. Even thought their lack of support revealed to me that blood apparently wasn’t thicker than water, I would later realize that their alienating me would be the best thing that could have ever happened to me at that time. It also didn’t help at the time that I was battling severe anemia, a medical condition I had to deal with my heart was strong enough to have surgery. I was grateful to have the support of my husband and children, but it was still up to me to win this battle.
God came to me at this time and saved me from going under and from myself. His unconditional love for me gave me the strength to persevere through one of the worse times of my life. I became stronger than ever spiritually and mentally. My immediate family showed me unconditional love and support. With them and God on my side I became a much stronger and wiser person. God started giving me new songs; songs with meaning and purpose that were born out of my pain and my will to overcome any obstacle. Songs that will prayerfully inspire the world. It is my prayer that my music will inspire others to bring their pain, hopes and fears to God for not only will He comfort you, but He will bring you through every single time you call on Him.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My husband and I are the owners of M.O.V.E.Movement Clothing brand, a veteran owned, christian based clothing line created with the sole purpose to motivate others to just keep moving forward, regardless of the challenges that life will most certainly throw you way! Our Journey was inspired by my first single release in 2019 titled “MOVE” during a time our lives lacked the movement that we craved. Little did we know, this song would not only minister to others but would also ignite a flame within us to become living proof that forward motion is possible and obtainable. We are committed to making quality, positive apparel for our customers to inspire them to not only make a difference in their lives but also in their families, communities and the lives of others! What sets us apart from other brands is that we are on a mission to encourage others to move in every aspect in life…spiritually, physically and mentally. We are very proud of the fact that we are motivating a community of people to activate their faith to pursue their dreams and overcome obstacles at any age!
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is truly the sum of your efforts, whether big or small that you continuously repeat day in and day out. In other words it’s consistency along with the gratification of being able to do what you love everyday that you are passionate about. I also believe that if one can face their own failures during their journey then they are better equipped than most to be a successful person and more successful than most.
