Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Sharma
Hi Mia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thank you, I’m excited to be here. My story really bridges two worlds, I started in engineering, where I learned how to design systems, and later moved into marcomms and brand strategy, where I learned how to design experiences. Over the years I’ve worked in the U.S., Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, with governments, nonprofits, and small businesses.
What I kept seeing was the same pattern: organizations had vision, but oftentimes struggled to execute. Initially I collaborated with entrepreneurs and small businesses after work hours to help bridge that gap and those projects naturally grew into what later became Monter. The business is about turning ideas into action – whether that’s streamlining operations, clarifying messaging, or building frameworks that last. At the end of the day, it’s about creating clarity and momentum so that businesses can grow with impact and confidence.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not smooth, but I think that’s where the growth happens. When you’re working with entrepreneurs and small businesses, you see how quickly circumstances can shift. Budgets, teams, even markets. We’ve faced those same hurdles building Monter.
What’s helped is treating obstacles as design challenges, that means we approach challenges with curiosity instead of frustration.
The truth is, every “bump” has forced to refine Monter’s methods, whether it’s how we streamline operations, how we tell a brand’s story, or how we help leaders stay focused. I wouldn’t call it smooth, but worthwhile, because each challenge sharpened the solutions we deliver to clients.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Absolutely. Monter LLC is a management consulting and communications design firm that partners with local, state, and federal governments as well as private businesses, entrepreneurs, and small enterprises. Our mission is simple: to deliver results by aligning operations, communications, and strategy.
We offer a broad range of services – management consulting, strategic communications, marketing and branding, business development, new market entry, program design, product launches, and digital strategy including social media and web design. What makes Monter unique is how we bring these pieces together. Instead of siloed solutions, we design systems and stories that move in sync, so clients can streamline operations, communicate with clarity, and scale sustainably.
We’re based in Baltimore but support projects and clients across the Mid-Atlantic, nationally, and abroad.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Baltimore is its resilience and creativity. It’s a city full of entrepreneurs, artists, and community leaders who know how to do more with less and still build something powerful. That grit and ingenuity show up in the businesses we work with every day.
On a personal level, I love the mix of old and new – the row houses, the waterfront, and neighborhoods with distinct character. It’s grounding to walk through history while watching innovation unfold, with world-class research institutions, scrappy startups, and local businesses all within blocks of each other.
What I don’t love is how often Baltimore is misunderstood. Too many people only know it through ‘The Wire’ and assume that’s the whole story. Yes, the challenges are real, but they’re not different faced by any other big city. Baltimore has deep blue-collar roots as a historic port city, with many neighborhoods built by and for working families. Over time, it’s also shifted toward a service economy, with a strong white-collar presence in healthcare and education. That mix of working-class grit and modern industry is what makes the city so full of life and character.
