Hidden Gems: Meet Latoya Stewart of This Goes Out to You

Today we’d like to introduce you to Latoya Stewart.

Hi Latoya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well, I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker- Clinical in the state of Maryland and Board certified supervisor. I founded This Goes Out to You LLC in 2019 however, it took us some time to find our center focus to wrap our services around. We initially started out providing community-based events that encouraged holistic wellness through teachings of breathwork, meditation, mindfulness, self-care, affirmations, and grounding techniques. We connected with community vendors to sell their products at the events to further promote self-care and the importance of prioritizing self. We then began to support agencies with their attempts to encourage their employees and client base through skill practice and development through guided meditation and exploration of grief and loss. Lastly, we served in roles such as a presenter, vendor or panelist as a representative for Mental Health and Wellness.

In 2021, we shifted to the Private Practice umbrella, which was perfect for our skill and clinical foundation base. This shift allowed us to build a community Mental Health network, provide clinical support and direct therapeutic guidance to women of color on their individual wellness journeys. We added Psychotherapy (individual, family, couples counseling, premarital counseling, and group therapy) along with other supports and services to encourage active practice and teaching of skill development to build a coping skills toolbox that grows with them as they grow. We pride ourselves in grounding all of our services in the strength-based perspective service delivery model that encourages our clients to ground and see themselves clearly with no judgement. Our clients are given a safe space to do their individual work on a timeline that works for them. They are encouraged to celebrate themselves along the way while engaged in therapy sessions that incorporate mindfulness based practices, cognitive behavioral therapy and other clinically sound therapeutic treatment modalities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to building your vision is never smooth. It has been helpful to continue to embrace grace as we grow. There is definitely a huge learning curve with opening a business, becoming paneled by insurance companies, building relationships with community partners, and overall putting yourself out there to grow and learn in the public eye. I take pride in always being a student. It has been helpful to give myself gentle reminders to rest in my skill, vision and passion. These gentle reminders have been the ultimate drive to keep going.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love my city and all of its hidden gems. I would gravely miss not having the best seafood (crabs) being so accessible, not being able to explore restaurants and hidden gems all over the city and surrounding counties. Like most cities Baltimore has had some negative national news stories but nothing could take away from my fond memories and love for my city.
