A mother and daughter team has taken wellness to another level, by opening Harford County’s 1st Himalayan Salt Therapy and Wellness Spa in Forest Hill, Maryland, making them the 3rd facility in the State of Maryland.
In 2017, Kelly Wagner and her daughter, Danielle Fraunhoffer, two long-time residents of Harford County, Maryland, decided to take the risk to open a unique wellness facility that would provide the community with a simpler and more direct way to receive all-natural, drug-free, and alternative wellness services for people to get relief from chronic health issues. This way of healing was found and experienced in Kelly’s personal journey to healing her chronic health problems.
The services at Serenity Salt Spa were inspired by the holistic and naturopathy doctors that Kelly had the pleasure of working with along her journey to healing.
“My personal journey to find holistic healing from my chronic health issues, now allows me to connect with clients personally and get a better understanding of what they need and want on their journey to whole-body healing”, Kelly said.
Especially those that have either gone undiagnosed, ignored or unaccepted by Western Medicine. With that education, she is able to help clients that suffer from similar problems, such as Fibromyalgia, Lyme’s Disease, chronic pain, inflammation, and other chronic health conditions.
The Spas doors opened to clients in early 2018, providing only salt therapy sessions to adults and children of all ages, it rapidly grew into the one-stop wellness spa they are today. Their concern for kids’ health in today’s lifestyle is what drove them to open Maryland’s 1st and only facility that offers a special salt room dedicated to kids ages 3 months to 12 years old.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Even though Serenity Salt Spa is now known throughout Harford County, Maryland, they have experienced several obstacles and challenges they had to overcome on their journey.
“Upon opening, we realized unless we were proactive in educating the community about the health benefits of Halotherapy, and alternative treatments the Spa would not succeed”, Danielle said.
But that wasn’t all, before opening its doors in March 2018, Kelly’s father was diagnosed with cancer in January, which led to Kelly wanting to put the Spa on the back burner while she dedicated her time to her dad, who unfortunately passed away in October 2018. After taking the time to grieve and take care of personal matters, Kelly was able to go back to the Spa full-time in
Kelly now working diligently, at the end of 2019, the Spa was going strong and 2020 proved no different as customers had now realized the services provided at Serenity Salt Spa had great health benefits.
Then the world shut down, but Kelly, Danielle, and Brittany stayed active by allowing clients that needed salt therapy sessions to receive them and by hand sewing “special face masks” for those struggling to find them. These masks were made with the health of the wearer in mind, as the mask incorporated an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-microbial filter made with pharmaceutical-grade salt. They also stayed diligent in community wellness by making and donating over 300 bags of bath salts to the ER Nurses at Upper Chesapeake Hospital.
Knowing that one day in the near future, the residents of Harford County would need additional wellness services to accommodate their post-COVID recovery, this is where the compassion of the Owners and staff shined as they stayed proactive in securing additional equipment that would now provide customers with whole-body healing.
Since then, the Owners are actively involved in community enrichment and giving back by, supporting local non-profits, schools, hospital staff, and other local businesses, participating in many community-based events, sponsoring local chambers of commerce, organizations, causes, events, and more.
With the support of the community and clients, the Owners were able to overcome those hurdles and are now on their journey to success, and since, Serenity Salt Spa has been featured on WMAR-2 News, local radio stations, podcasts, and area magazines.
They have won several awards like, “Harford County’s Best Local Wellness Spa,” runner up as “Best in Harford” and Best Himalayan Salt Therapy Specialists in the Mid-Atlantic USA by LUX Life, Health, Beauty, and Wellness Awards
